E-books has a long way to go?
Since the turn of the century, computers have become more portable, and technology has made many aspects of life more portable. Even books have been become more mobile in recent years with the popularization of e-books available online and e-readers that allow a person to carry a virtual library anywhere. With all the changes, there are some advantages and disadvantages brought by e-books. Is it feasible that it will disappear one day as its disadvantages outweigh its advantages?

Advantages
1. It helps people who have trouble with their vision
I believe many of you must have come across some difficulties during reading. You may complain how small the words are and feel exhausted easily after finishing some of your reading. As we can read books through the e-books readers, we now can have the option of zooming in on the words or enlarging the font so that it can be read more easily. This is a great benefit to people who have trouble with their vision. With the right software, they can be converted to audio books so you can rest your eyes

2. It is easily portable
Moreover, they are portable, thus carrying even hundreds of e-Books on a CD or a laptop from one place to another is quite easy. You can travel light with any number of e-Books that you want. The number of e-Books does not create packing and transportation trouble like printed books. It is also much safer to transport e-Books, as there are no worries such as damage in transport due to water, rough handling, etc.
3. It is more environmentally-friendly
At the time when every nation is concerned about the environment, there is a lot of emphasis over the use of environment-friendly substances. When we compare e-books reading with the conventional kind of reading, the former one is considered more environment-friendly as it avoids the use of paper and packaging material .As more trees will survive instead of being cut down for making books, the speed of global warming

If we look further into the history of e-books and the emergence of the dedicated e-reader devices that support e-books, several interesting point emerge. First of all, e-reader devices initially appeared almost twenty years ago, in the early 1990’s (Sony’s “Bookman” was released in 1992). Even more suprisingly, the E-ink technology that e-book readers like the Sony Reader and the Kindle use, which tries to provide a more ink-on-paper-like experience, was first conceptualized in the 1970’s, and marketed in 1992. So why is it that we haven’t really heard about these devices until last year? It took the combination of a culture shift in our society, and the perfectly positioned company to begin to make e-books and e-reading devices popular and Amazon was just the company to recognize and take advantage of this unique strategic opportunity.…

A book seems so worthless compared to an e-book, but it has its own advantages. A book that is on a shelf would last longer than an e-book, for an e-reader’s battery will eventually run out, and the documents may get lost in the cyberspace. A paper book is not as fragile as an e-reader, if you drop an e-reader it may get more severely damaged than a paper book. A paper book’s cover attracts customers with visual appeal, and the feeling of the paper itself and flipping the page is something that only paper books have. The designs of paper books tend to make them look beautiful too. Paper books remain readable for many years, but e-books will keep develop as technology develops; so…

I think ‘real, physical’ books are better than e-books because you can truly own a book. As Mortimer J. Adler, a popular author, says, ‘Full ownership comes only when you have made [the book] a part of yourself, and the best way to make yourself a part of it is by writing in it.’ When owning an e-book it is more like owning ‘insurance’ than owning a camera. In one case ownership of books is physical and irrevocable but e-books are not and can be taken away easily as Kindle users discovered when one day their copies of 1984 suddenly disappeared. You will know a book that is truly owned because it will be ‘dog-eared and dilapidated, shaken and loosened by continual use, marked and scribbled in from front to back,’ says Adler. It also lets you know how old and how well enjoyed a book was. E-readers are beginning to allow some interactivity, but it is of a very different order. Taking a note in an e-book or making a highlight in it is independent of the book; all of that information is stored apart from the book in a file or a database. Send the book to another person and you’ll find that all of the notes and highlights are gone. They belong to you or your device, not to your book.…

The latest advances in information technology make people think that schools of the future will use computers instead of printed books. Although electronic books have not been widely accepted yet, they have certain advantages over traditional paper volumes. But will they be able to replace printed books? In my opinion, students will be widely using computers for studying in the future. To begin with, computers can store lots of books in their memory and modern software allows us to find quickly the necessary information. Besides, with the interactive programs on computers studying will be much more exciting. What is more, electronic books will not degrade overtime like their printed counterparts. On the other hand, lots of disbelievers argue that computers will not replace printed books because a printed book is better for human eyes than a computer screen. In addition, books are cheaper and easier to use since they do not need electricity or the Internet connection. I cannot agree with this because modern computer screens emit no radiation and allow us to read even in low light conditions. Of course we will have to pay for electricity but I think it will be cheaper than to pay for printed books, which are very expensive nowadays.…

Books will never be completely replaced by computers. Computers can crash, and all information will be lost. If the power goes out in your house, you can't read on your computer, but you can pick up a book. What you read on a comp. is just light or something on a screen. A book is is a permentent physical printing. If computers replaced books, we'd all have serious eye problems. The joy of reading would be lost. I'd hate to have to depend on a machine for my relaxing reading time. Books are forever, computers are until it breaks down, and everything will be lost. Books can be taken care of, as can computers, but there are books that are a hundred years old, I haven't heard of anyone with the same computer for even 10 yrs. I guess comps are getting new and better, but books are still better to read. However, on the up side for comps, 1 comp, can store probebly over a hundred books, sort of like an i pod. But if the 1 comp breaks, that a hundred books too. Computers are good, and should store that kind of stuff, but I don't think it should completly replace the book. That would really suck.…
