Personal Development

1. Describe the duties and responsibilities of own role.
As a care assistant my duties include giving personal care to residents, such as washing, dressing, toileting and assisting with nutritional needs.
It is my responsibility to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed to maintain the best possible care for the residents.

2. Identify standards that influence the way the role is carried out.

Manual handling operations regulations 1992
Management of health and safety at work regulations 1999

3. Describe ways to ensure personal attitudes or beliefs do not obstruct the quality of work.

Do not let my personal feelings get in the way of work.
Have a positive attitude towards everyone I work with weather resident or co-worker.
Treat everybody as equal
Do not try and push your own beliefs on a person. Allow them to make up their own mind.

4. Explain why reflecting on work activities is an important way to develop knowledge, skills and practice.
Reflecting on my work activities will give me the opportunity to identify which are my strong and weak points, what went well in a situation and what did not go so well. By doing this I will be able to pin point which areas of my work I will need further training or guidance in , or adapt the way I handle a situation in future. It will also enable me to identify weather I am meeting all minimum care standards.

5. Assess how well own knowledge, skills and understanding meet standards
Since starting work in the Nursing home my knowledge of the different types of disease and illness people suffer from has become vast.
In recent years my whole image of a nursing home was a place where elderly people go to live because family could no longer be bothered. I now know this not to be true. Many of the

    Within my own job role there is a wide range of duties and responsibilities. No two days are ever the same so we have to be prepared for anything that may happen. My duties as a care assistant include assisting residents that require assistance with personal care, which can include bathing, washing and dressing, assistance with going to the toilet, help with incontinence, weather this could be change of incontinence pads or just make sure that they are there for when they need them.
