Dushrab's Habits
Dushrab, a Half-Orc, grew up as a lower-class peasant in the port-city Rullum with his friend, (or relative, or brother?) Krug, hopelessly surrounded by crime and discord. Growing up in a mostly human city, Dushrab had to deal with his fair share of racism, frequently getting into fights with the unforgiving bigots. Muttered slurs are the second best way to get into a brawl with Dushrab, the first is endangering his friends. From a ripe age of seven, Dushrab was already 4' 8" and worked on the docks, moving heavy cargo onto merchant ships for a couple of coppers a day. He worked long hours with little pay, and had little money to put food on the table. Frequently mugged or pickpocketed, Dushrab had a difficult time paying for food, and …show more content…
Frequently mugged, pickpocketed, and targeted by bigots, Dushrab grew furious with the crime and disorder of Rullum, and vowed to fight it. He became jaded and slow to trust during his young years. Dushrab met the love of his life when applying for the city guard, she was a fellow Half-Orc named Shelur. After his initial denial, Shelur taught Dushrab how to fight with maces and shields. Dushrab later managed to earn a job as a city guard, and they grew closer as they frequented a tavern near the docks called The Angry Tyrant. Meeting the sailors wandering through town, they came across an old and wise, but troubled dwarven sailor. His tales of the army inspired Dushrab to enlist, using his fighting prowess for a cause greater than being a city guard, but Shelur did not want to accompany him. She had nobody but him now, after her parents were murdered in cold blood by the bigots who inhabit this city. After crossing the sea, Dushrab fought in a battle against the Tiefling Empire, and Dushrab had to make a quick decision to save a fallen comrade and friend, or stop the conjuring of a fireball onto his fellow soldiers. He chose his friend, who ended up dying anyway, and has regretted the selfish decision ever since. After leaving the army, he had a great burden of regret on his shoulders, and found that the only way he could forgive himself was by helping people in the name of the god Heironeous. He became a disciple of his god, and since then has become an adventurer, never leaving behind any comrade, he would rather die than let one of his own

Duddy was not born into money, his father, Max, was a taxi driver, and pulled in a low income. Max's brother, Benjy had money and always played favourites with Duddy's brother, Lennie by giving him money and opportunities. Duddy always had to struggle for his money, and in one his many struggles he borrows his father's taxi cab, which is his only source of income, but does not return it for three days. He was delivering pin ball machines that he had sold. When he returns he finds his father is furious at him just taking off with the cab without permission. "They found Max at Eddy's, and he was furious, ‘who do you think you are?,' he said ‘that you can run off with my car for three days? Just like that.'" (Richler, 213). Duddy has a way of burning bridges with the people that he most needs, he only thinks of himself, and has no consideration for the feelings of others, even those who does not want to hurt the most. Duddy's grandfather, also known as the Zeyda, is Duddy's mentor and the only person Duddy really looks up to, and the one he does not want…

"Friend by Day, Enemy by Night" shares an in depth look into the lives of the Kohistanis who live in Thull, Pakistan. The author of the text, Lincoln Keiser, goes into great depth in explaining the life of these people before and after mar dushmani. Mar dushmani can be directly translated as "death enmity." This social relationship between the Kohistanis causes for many problems. As a general principle death enmity allows men to retaliate whenever another man wrongs them, though the act of revenge itself should not exceed the original wrong. The example stated in the book is, "a blow should answer a blow and a death answer a death." For such offenses as attacks on men through their wives, sisters, and daughters retaliation usually occurs in deadly violence. Killing the offender is considered the most appropriate response. Although violence usually takes place during retaliation, it is not the only way to handle it.…

Most of the meat was corrupted with human hair and dirt. Blood and dirt covered the floor; in the novel Sinclair says that “this floor was half an inch deep with blood” (Sinclair 32). As a result of the poor working conditions, many workers were injured while working. When a worker was injured, they received little to no medical attention. If the injury was so extreme that they could not work for a period of time, their job was given to someone else and when they healed and could work again, they did not have a job. With the poverty level at its highest, many citizens had to steal in order to survive. If they were caught, they would end up spending the night or even more in jail. In the novel Jurgis is put in jail because he started a fight with his boss, who sexually harassed Ona; He was put into jail for 30 days. While in jail, he was not able to provide his family with money, with no money they sent the children to work. In the 1900s children as young as three had to work to help their families make enough money. These children worked up to fifteen hours a day and got paid very little…

My story of racial slurs are many, I have been called many slurs by many non-whites. It does literally no effect on our race. But sometimes it really angers me. What really saddens me though is I heard minorities use racial slurs against other minorities. Some friends might say it for fun, but it irritates people and if they are too sensitive, those slurs should not be given to them.…

How would you like to be called names because of your cultural, beliefs, tradition or even colour? Well this is happening everywhere every day. Racism is one of the world’s MAJOR issues TODAY. A number of people are unaware of how much racism endures in our society today. Racism can be seen in incidents of racist abuse, harassment and discrimination, racism is also manifested indirectly, in the form of prejudiced attitudes and lack of recognition of cultural diversity. Racism is the discrimination of a person because of the race that they have inherited. Racism can be said to anyone. It is really serious that these things change, but these past few years, many people in all countries have been saying mean and rude things about one another’s tradition. RACISM IS BULLYING! People think its cool or fun to tease a person because of their colour, their accent, culture and sometimes even how they are not good in something, this is all racism. There are many different types of racism, for example racism because of skin colour, birth place, religion e.c.t but they all got a couple of things in common. All kinds of racism are despicable and create a negative and sometimes dangerous emotional response.…

Across all texts that I studied, characters are racially ill-treated. In Pepe Danquart’s Oscar-winning short film ‘Schwarzfahrer’, the main character is racially abused because of his African descent. Similarly in the novel ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’, an African American called Tom Robinson is falsely accused of raping a white girl, Mayella Ewell because of the colour of his skin. The black man in ‘Schwarzfahrer’ enters a tram, and sits on a free seat next to an old lady. The old lady, who first chose to ignore him when he asked if he could take the seat, starts to insult and berate him; criticizing him on taking the seat 'just like that'. Throughout her soliloquy, whilst the black man remains quiet, she states that all blacks stink, are unintelligent, criminals and the perfect bearer for AIDS. "...They should at least have their names changed when they come over here, or else you can't tell them apart at all. What's more, they smell awful. But there is no law against that!" The old lady in Schwarzfahrer separates herself from the black man by referring to herself as “we” and referring him as “they”. She uses this language to indicate that his race isn't as superior as hers. Tom, in ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ is sentenced to death without a fair trial because of his African descent. His Lawyer Atticus Finch is the only being in the town of…
