Duquesne University Personal Statement
The Spiritan founders and sponsors of Duquesne University have always believed in welcoming all and excluding none; which is why the students, faculty and staff of this university come from a collection of different ethnicities, races, cultures and backgrounds. Diversity is something that is important to me and Duquesne University. Being an Carribean-American woman, from the suburbs of Middletown, Delaware will make me a minority in the city of Pittsburg. Being that the foundation of Duquesne University’s rich and vital community of learners is diversity in itself, I can be a key contributor to this community.

Growing up with a Caribbean mother and an African American father called for a blend of different traditions and cuisines. My mother was born in Grenada with two brothers. The family soon moved to St.Thomas seeking a better way of life. Later the family moved to America in her teenage years …show more content…
Myself being a black female seeking to pursue multiple degrees in this field sets me apart from others. By pursuing a degree in the field of STEM, I have plans to use my knowledge to serve. The knowledge that I acquire through The Bayer School Scholars Program will aid me in my future goals in the development and advocacy of green living. I would like to dedicate my research to environmental studies to improve the way of life for people in and out of the United States through green living. Along with my degree in biochemistry or environmental sciences I plan to acquire a degree in engineering also so I can develop revolutionary technologies that will help our environment and the organisms living in it. I believe that Duquesne University is the perfect place for me to dive into my ambitious aspirations.
