THE WAY OF GIVING

The word “charity” means generosity in giving something to the needy out of love and kindness towards them. Helping many who lead a miserable existence may not change the entire world, but will give some hope and happiness and make them feel like a human being. The secret to Charity is not expecting anything in return. A selfless act of humanity is beautiful and rare. These self less acts of Charity should represent Donations, Giving of free time and work and providing emotional support in time of crisis.

The most common way of giving is through Donations. There are several different types of donations. Some donate money to their favorite charities such as research of disease, monetary relief for individuals who were affected by natural disasters, like the most recent Hurricane Sandy that hit the east coast, or monies to the Red Cross, who help poor children in other countries that have no food. Charitable people have a moral need to help others. This motivates them to give. Others donate personal possessions like their extra clothing, shoes, coats, etc. The items are given at local Salvation Army bins. Some donate extra toys their own kids never played or outgrew.

Giving yourself of free time and work is also a common form of Charity. Many people do not have possessions or money to help, so they give themselves to do work and use their bodies or professional expertise to those who need help or can’t survive without the helping of other. Many inner cities, like our local Camden, NJ, have several food shelters that serve food to the homeless. These people are everyday people, who have nothing to give but themselves. They show up and serve soup for 10 hours a day and expect nothing in return. A selfless act of love for people they don’t even know. Some families have

Charity is love. It is devotion to others, which requires strength, effort, conviction and courage on our part. People who are generous and helpful to others don't have many signs of envy; their charity protects them from it. Envy is the opposite of charity; it is the desire to have things that other people have, such as possessions, traits, and abilities. Even if the money they give to infrastructure or food for them, it still is help and as long as it does not go back into their pockets. Many may say that this isn’t an issue that they think of on a daily basis and that if they saw it in front of them then they would do something about. However, they do see it. We see it when we go out in public, the homeless who ask for money. A meal that we eat could last them days of meals to the homeless who don’t have any food at all. It is an obligation to do so, as you would be extremely appreciative of someone who did it for you. Singer says we also shouldn’t do it because we feel like we have to, instead because it comes out of our hearts. Imagine if everyone in the entire world contributed to someone’s well being? Things like world hunger wouldn’t even occur. Also, it’s not like people aren’t aware, they just choose to not take the blindfold off as they think “it’s not my problem”. Another example would be walking passed a drowning child and you ignore it, this is morally…

People such as Matt Wage, Julia Wise, Rhema Kokama, Celso Vieira, and Priya Basil are just a few of the many people who follow this type of lifestyle. According to these people, they are living ethically as effective altruist. To sum up effective altruism, Peter Singer (2016: vii) states that “effective altruism is based on a very simple idea: we should do the most good we can,” as well as “living a minimally acceptable ethical life involves using a substantial part of our spare resources to make the world a better place.” Overall, effective altruism is the use of high-quality evidence and reasoning to achieve the most on can do during his or her lifetime.…

Nina Hagen who is a German singer once said “Do some selfless service for people who are in need. Consider the whole picture, not just our little selves.” There have been a lot of people who have committed some selflessness acts though out our history. Rosa Park refused to move to the back of the bus she stood up for the rights of African-Americans. Then there is the selflessness of people giving kidneys and bone marrow to others while they are alive. Even though the surgery could kill them, they are willing to sacrifice their lives in a major act of selflessness. Cameron Lyle a 21-year-old college athlete gave up his shot put career to donate bone marrow to a complete stranger that was given only months to live. He sacrificed his own life and dreams to save the life of another person he didn’t even know. Parents also show major acts of selflessness for their children. Parents sometimes have more than one job so they can be able to provide better things for their children. Police officers show an abundance of selflessness by saving people’s lives or sometimes buying clothes and shoes for underprivileged children. The people who run homeless shelters and nonprofit companies show selfless acts by donating items and services to people in need. These people get nothing in return for their good deeds in helping out people who are less…

What is generosity? To some, it's giving more than you have to individuals that might need it more than you do. To others, it's trying to make people smile, or make someone's day a little bit brighter. Being generous does not mean that you have to give money, sometimes you just have to give time and attention. Every person has a different definition of what it means. Anne Frank states that "No one has ever become poor by giving." Is that because being generous makes your heart feel rich? Frank A. Clark says "Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never notice." If no one ever acknowledges when someone does a considerate deed for them, why does generosity spread? In this day and age, people broadcast…

My interpretation of “people helping people” is “people helping people” can be looked at as a selfless act of encouragement to one individual or a whole community. By helping those with a certain need to only get the profit of satisfaction is a fundamental philosophy to keep our society well-endowed and strong as a community. I have personally demonstrated this in my community by participating in my school’s Operation Christmas Child to help children across the world see what a better life is and to help them reach it on earth, and with God. I also volunteered for four summers at our City’s Park’s Program as a junior counselor, watching children and giving them a place to enjoy their summer outside and also educate them as we took field trips to the Corning Museum of Glass. I personally have lived by my own interpretation of the selfless philosophy of “people helping people”…
