Drinking and Driving
Driving under the influence has affected many people's lives and families. Today I would like to talk to you about the problems of drinking and driving, and why it is a concern for all of us. Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations you can put yourself or someone else in. The fact is that drinking and driving is a huge deal and can leave a long trail of broken dreams and hearts. If you drink and drive, not only are you putting yourself at risk, but your passengers and the pedestrians outside of your vehicle. According to the most recent statistics by the National Commission Against Drunk Driving states that 17,000 Americans die each year in alcohol- related traffic crashes and 600,000 Americans are injured (NCADD). That's is and average of one fatal accident every thirty minutes. Every thirty minutes someone's life has ended and his or her family and friends left to weep. Anyone of these accidents could easily be a family member, relative, or neighbor. Most of these alcohol-related crashes are not just cuts and bruises. People are paralyzed, severely disfigured, or have lost the ability to live out a normal life with work and having fun are now activities that now rely on the aid of others. There is plenty of reasons alcohol and driving does not mix. The body is a very complicated organism with everything needing to go just right for it to function properly. Alcohol only affects how your body functions negatively. Alcohol is a downer that reduces activity in the central nervous system. The person exhibits loss muscle tone, loss of fine motor coordination ( Net Biz Mentor). Depression and alcohol also do not mix. When people get depressed from everyday life they have the tendency to do give in to the easy but temporary solution of alcohol. When people are depress and drink, a beer is like a potato chip, you cannot have just one. "After drinking people usually feel pleasure and become talkative at first.

Driving under the influence has been this country’s most frequent committed crime as there were few laws and weren’t as strict. The problems that lead to the creation of MADD were the many alcohol related accidents that have occurred with minimum punishment. In 1980, 27,000 alcohol-related traffic fatalities occurred in the United States each year, including 2,500 in California alone. The blood alcohol level in the United States was .15 in 1938 but then .10 in the 80’s before MADD and other advocate groups pressured it to be lowered to now .08 in the year 2005. Another issue was that many underage people were drinking alcohol. The drinking age depending on the state was 18 years old but has not been raised to 21 in the…

Drunk driving is considered a serious crime in every state. It is wrong, irresponsible and wastes many lives. People who abuse alcohol hurt everyone around them, endanger public safety, and create carnage on the nation’s highways. There is nothing positive that can come out of drunk driving, so why do people do it? It is society’s job to punish these menaces and try to take control of this out of control issue. America doesn’t want to watch idly as hundreds of people are killed each day. We want to take a stand and let the world know that we may be the “land of the free and the brave” but there is nothing brave or free about driving drunk. What should be done about this problem is debatable and certainly open to discussion, but the first step is lowering the BAC (blood alcohol concentration) level from .10 to .08. Many states have already done this and I commend them on this decision, but the government needs to mandate this to all the states. Some people oppose this decision and say that it is based on “emotion, personal vendettas, and irrational, sound public policy, nor backed up by statistical data.”( DWI Dilema, Internet source) However, I disagree. We need to send the message that it is not acceptable, nor is it constitutional to drive under any influence of alcohol, weather it be .08 or .20.…

Drinking and driving is an illegal act that is wrong on multiple levels. It violates a moral and ethical code. In a society that has the morals of a brothel where it is better to joke with your buddies about getting wasted on the weekends or how much more drinking you did compared to your buddy. We forget that simply talking in this manner sends out a message that we condone the act of drinking without moderation. When you condone the act of drinking without moderation then you condone making mistakes with out even saying so. It probably would not surprise you to know that between 60% and 80% of drivers with suspended licenses continue to drive. The social implication from this study are that the high-risk population mentioned above cannot be trusted abstain from driving when legally impaired. I believe this be deplorable as a society and to think that a good portion of these people mentioned are probably military. This is an even sadder fact in and of itself. I blame a number of reasons for the number of drunk driving accidents or fatalities in this country. I blame the government both state and federal for not making harsher laws concerning the punishment for these crimes. I blame the friends and family members of the people who commit this heinous act. I blame the beer and alcohol companies and last but definitely not least I blame the individual who decides to get behind the wheel after having any number of drinks weather it is one or one hundred. My parents always said do not work harder to find flaws than you do to find solutions. I am a believer in the smart mistakes and dumb mistakes. Drinking and driving is one of the all time dumbest mistakes. I believe that when you have access to television which airs no drinking and driving commercials all the times, and you pass billboards on the street that say do not drink an drive and numerous school resources that you have no excuse to go out and do it. If you decide to drink and drive…
