Don Capital Case Problem
TO: Emily Whitfield
FROM: THU NGUYEN
DATE: 02-21-12
SUBJECT: Case Problem #2
Problem Statement
Don Capita, the owner of Carpita Bottling Company in Lakeland, Wisconsin, received a phone call from the J.R. Summers grocery manager regarding the recently shipment. She requested Carpita Company to replace the entire of shipment because there were several bottles that weren’t qualified the fill level of 16-ounces. Therefore, Don decided to take a sample of 64 bottles of beer from the store to measure the average content in each bottle of beer. At the result, he found out that 15.993 ounces were the average content in each bottle of beers of the sample. However, those bottles were filled randomly among four bottling machines (one old machine and three new machines) from different warehouses. Therefore, Don needs help to determine if this filling error was more likely from the old machine or the new one so that he could reduce time and effort in checking all machines.

Statistical Results
Based on the information provided in this case, the sample size is 64-bottles of beers are large enough to assume the distribution for a probability is approximately normal

nπ=64(0.5)=32>5n1-π=641-0.5=32>5

Among the three new machines, the population mean was obtained at 16 ounces with a standard deviation of .16 ounces. By obtaining a Z-score at -.35 for the sampling distribution, it’s believed that the probability of the new machines producing a group of 64 bottles with a mean of 15.993 ounces will be 36.32%

In another hand, the population mean of the old machine was obtained at 16.05 ounces to compensate for the inconsistencies in the bottling process. Besides, its standard population was observed at .24 ounces. By obtaining a Z-score at -1.9 for the sampling distribution, it’s believed that the probability of the old machines producing a group of 64 bottles with a mean of 15.993 ounces will be 2.87%

The Excel formulas were used to calculate the probability

    Statistics is not an easy topic for your everyday person to pick up and make it easy for them to understand. Equations and hypothesis and the like can be overwhelming and confusing. But what about when you relate it to something that is common in everyday life? Throughout the semester we were given the task to evaluate M&Ms in a few different statistical ways. Throughout this report the goal is to be able to explain what happened, and offer the results in plain English for anyone to be able to understand.…

    John Pauzke, president of Cereals Unlimited, Inc., wants to be very certain that the mean weight μ of packages satisfies the package label weight of 16 ounces. The packages are filled by a machine that is set to fill each package to a specified weight. However, the machine has random variability measured by σ2. John would like to have strong evidence that the mean package weight is above 16 ounces. George Williams, quality control manager, advises him to examine a random sample of 25 packages of cereal. From his past experience, George knew that the weight of the cereal packages follows a normal distribution with standard deviation 0.4 ounce. At the significance level α…

    In this project we were given the case of customer complaints that the bottles of the brand of soda produced in our company contained less than the advertised sixteen ounces of product. Our boss wants us to solve the problem at hand and has asked me to investigate. I have asked my employees to pull Thirty (30) bottles off the line at random from all the shifts at the bottling plant. The first step in solving this problem is to calculate the mean (x bar), the median (mu), and the standard deviation (s) of the sample. All of those calculations were easily computed in excel. The mean was computed by entering: =average, the…

    Explaining the make up a data description one must calculate the mean, median and standard deviation. To determine the mean, also known as the arithmetic average, is found by adding the value of the data and diving by the total numbers of values. In this case of a Bottle company study with thirty different bottles. The mean is 15.2, which was able to be reach by calculating the value of 30 bottles that equal 457 ounces divide by 30 (457/30=15.2). The median is the halfway point in a data set. Before you can find this point, the data must be arranged in order. When the data set is ordered, it is called a data array. The median either will be a specific value in value in the data set or will fall between two values. In this case the value falls in the middle to 15.6. The Standard Deviation is the square root of the variance. The preceding computational procedure reveals several…

Our calculated concentration (using a calculated ethanol density), when compared to the class mean, deviated by ~10% from the mean. Our calculated concentration using the given density of ethanol deviated ~11% off from the mean. Both of these values are just barely within one standard deviation of the mean. This shows that our calculated concentration was not very precise and somewhat…
