Do Inanimate Objects Want To Resist Mankind?
In his essay, Baker assures that inanimate objects want to resist mankind. First, inanimate objects break down when they are needed. Automobiles break down in the middle of an intersection during rush hour. Furnaces break down the first day of winter. Next, inanimate objects get lost with unexplained reasons. Keys make their way down to the bottom of the mattress. Gloves are meant to be a pair, but one always gets lost. Finally, some inanimate objects just don’t work. Barometer isn't in working conditions. Flashlight dies out within an hour of used.
I agree with Baker that inanimate objects are out to get us. Some inanimate objects break down, especially when they are most needed. First, my printer breaks down on me. There was a time when I had a

I had to rush to the San Bernardino Valley College library to print out my research paper. Then I was late to my pharmacology class. My front loader Maytag washer machine just decided to break down on me early in the morning. I was on my second load of dark clothes, when I tried to turn the washer machine on. The machine kept saying error. I had 5 other loads to wash and I had asked my mother-in-law, if I could go wash at her house. My mother-in-law was washing and I had to wait until she was done. I didn't get home til 9P.M. and still had to do my trigonometry homework. Next, inanimate objects have their way of getting lost. My direct tv control remote always ends up in weird places. Sundays are game day. It was the first football game of the season and my favorite team Dallas Cowboys were playing at 1:00P.M. It was 15 minutes til the game and the televisions was on the Disney junior channel. I couldn’t find the remote control. Therefore, I had to download the peel remote on my phone in order to change the channel. I notice there was something on the top of my Honda Accord, it was the direct tv

“Come off it. It doesn’t like or dislike. It just ‘functions.’ It’s like a lesson in ballistics. It has a trajectory we decide on for it. It follows through. It targets itself, homes itself, and cuts off. It’s only copper wire, storage batteries, and electricity” (Bradbury 26)…

Today out of all days I had decided to clean out my attic upstairs. As I go upstairs, I take a quick pause and sneeze. Feeling the dust tickling my nostrils, I glance at everything surrounding me, Piles of boxes, books, big bags filled with old clothes, photo albums stacked like a tower nearly clasping. It was a mess. Not the biggest mess in the world or a horrific scene of a hoarder’s mess, but it was still a mess. All the attic needed was dusting, sweeping, and reorganizing. Quickly, I go back downstairs heading my way towards the kitchen, and I reach for my grandmas red apron and put it on. Once I’ve gotten my apron on tightly, I go under the sink cabinet and get a bottle of Pine-Sol, some Chlorox disinfecting wipes, and a dry old sponge. Once I have gotten all my cleaning utensils, I put them in an blue bucket. I almost forgot! I also needed a duster. I go to the laundry room get the duster and rush back to the kitchen. Before going upstairs, I make sure and double check if I have all the items I need making sure so I wouldn’t have to make another trip to come back downstairs.…

It was a typical late summer day in my life; the all work no play world of Tanner Simons. Ok, maybe a slight exaggeration but seriously while other kids are swimming, playing in summer basketball leagues or hanging out. I am held captive forty-five miles from the nearest town. I get to spend my summers helping out on the family ranch. We have a lot of creek bottoms that require crossings. Over the years equipment has grown in size. On this particular day Dad decided we needed to replace some culverts with bigger ones. This will cut off a lot of miles and hill climbing with the stack mover. I am the youngest of six kids and was eager to prove what I could do. There were two crossings to dig out. I would start with the one by the corrals down below, about 2 miles south of our house. I drove the excavator down and began playing in the dirt. Did I mention that it was a hot afternoon and just the drive down was miserable? I moved on down the creek about another mile and a half and dove right in digging out the other old crossing. My brother came down to get me on the motorcycle and we headed back up to the house. I was feeling quite proud of myself and my accomplishments of the day. I was relaxing on the computer enjoying the air conditioning when my Dad and sister came in too. They had been moving cows and had went down below to put in the new culverts. Dad wanted to know why in the heck it took me all afternoon to dig out one culvert. I told him I got them both dug out and he said not to kid him, he was hot and tired! A heated argument happened before we finally figured out that I had dug out the wrong crossing! It is funny now but having to go back down and dig a third culvert that same afternoon was not funny at…

I am a very forgetful person. I can lose things within minutes and have absolutely no idea as to where it is. Consequently, being that person can be very tough because no one really trust you with their belongings, you lose everything and it becomes very frustrating, etc. So it is very of the norm for me to causally misplace my phone. One day while leaving the mall after a day of handing out with friends I realized I misplaced my phone. I didn’t really give it much thought because this is a normal habit for me. However, it wasn’t until I got home that I realized, “I really don’t have my phone.” I went straight into panic mode because I realized that it could be anywhere, with anyone. After about forty-five minutes of crying and searching,…

Only 2 tedious hours of school and I could go home and lay in my queen size bed with my body sized pillow because today was just not my day. As i walk into Mr. Schwantes class I see an egg, a cup filled with water, and toilet paper roll. I know right then and there we are doing a really fun activity. Mr. Schwantes was always a fun teacher. He was very helpful as well. I could always count on him to cheer me up. I take a seat and read the board and do what it says. “ Good morning boys and girls!!” Mr. Schwantes says as he walks in the room, “ We will be doing an experiment today. Please move all of your stuff to the back counter when you are done with your blog.” As i stand up to go put my folder and notebook on the back counter I start feeling a little light headed. What was wrong with me? My stomach aches and i'm really dizzy. After standing there for about 20 seconds i feel fine again. I place my items on the back counter and take my seat, I just couldn't get the fact that the big game was tonight and i didn't feel good out of my head. “Are you okay Kierra,” Mr. Schwantes asks, “You look a little…

Heading towards a Hockey game one Saturday afternoon, my friends and I decided to take the fastest route to beat rush hour. My good friend Anna was driving her luxurious Lexus and I was seating on the passenger seat. While my friends, Emily and Dakota were in the back seat. We were listening and singing along to the popular song by Justin Bieber “Sorry”. Anna was using the GPS on her smart phone and at the same time, she decided to snapchat the moment. She was recording the sing-along while driving 65 M/Hr down six avenue. Suddenly, a big GMC truck rushes from the emerging lane and cuts right in front of us, Anna’s phone flew towards the windshield and she completely lost control of the steering wheel. For a second, I thought we were going…

My eyes felt heavy and dry from staring at my phone for so long. I know I should have been studying for my science test, but I procrastinated, so I continued to keep my dazed eyes glued to the bright screen. When I rarely looked up from my phone, I noticed that day was withering away, as it was becoming more and more deep into the night, with the sun replaced by the moon in the star-filled sky. After just simply turning my neck to my window, I felt stiff from staying in the same position, being too lazy to get up out of my comfortable fuzzy chair. At this point, I knew I had to start studying, but instead I kept playing Candy Crush. My mom always told me to put down my phone, but I never listened..…

I was to be honest scared. I asked the substitute teacher if I could go use the restroom. I walked down the hallway plagued with pain in my heart. I could feel the wet, salty tears run down my cheek and touch my lips. I didn’t know what to do or where to go. I just sat in the hallway. Alone. I reached the bathroom and pulled out my phone. I could hear it vibrating from people texting me. “Where’d you go?!” “Are you ok?” “Why’d you leave?” I just set my phone down for a second and looked at my reflection in the mirror and thought to myself “Here we go again.”…

It was Christmas time. Me and my brother Max had gone to the mall. We went there to get a present for your mom and dad. I was very used to babysit Max. I have done it for 3 years going so I thought that I could easily handle him. When we got to the mall Max wanted to go to the toy shop. I told him that we could go in there for only 10 min. When we got into the shop Max immediately ran to the Lego section. I looked away for just 5 seconds. When I looked back Max was gone. At first I thought that he had just gone to look at another rack. I went around looking for him. After at while I started panicking. “How could I had let this happen” I thought to myself.
