Abstract
This paper examines the Dinosaurs of the Jurassic Period. The paper considers the holistic view of the Jurassic period in addition to the Dinosaurs that roamed the Earth during this period. Finally, historical consideration evidence leading to the demise or disappearance of the dinosaurs. Analysis is based upon research conducted from ten academic reference sites. The paper provides an understanding of the different species that lived during the Jurassic period and the environmental and climatic conditions that supported them. Also discussed is a significant amount of information regarding palaeontologists’ discoveries of great dinosaur faunas, such as the Jurassic Morrison Formation. Why did the dinosaurs flourish during the Jurassic period and what evidence is there to support it? How did the environment and climatic conditions impact the evolution of the species? What ultimately resulted in the extinction of the species?

The Jurassic Period, also known as the Age of Reptiles, and is marked from the end of the Triassic period to the beginning of the Cretaceous period; the time frames within this period are broken down into Early, Middle and Late Jurassic. There are three main extinction events in the life of the dinosaurs, none of which took place during the Jurassic period; however, the beginning of the Jurassic period is identified by the Triassic-Jurassic extinction. The term Jurassic was linked to the Jura Mountains of Switzerland, a small range north of the Swiss Alps dividing the Rhone and Rhine rivers (Palmer, 2002). In the Jurassic period, there were many vertebrates living in the oceans, including, fish and marine reptiles; these included that of coiled ammonites, ichthyosaurs, marine crocodiles, and long-necked plesiosaurs. Herbivores roamed the earth, feeding on the lush growths of palm-like cycads and ferns, while being preyed upon by smaller but vicious carnivores; and

Tyrannosaurus Rex was the dominant predator in the late Cretaceous period. The Tyrannosaurus Rex, or T-Rex for short, lived about 85 million to 65 million years ago. T-Rex often resided in moist, humid, semi-tropical areas, usually near rivers or forested swamps. T-Rex fossils have been found in North America and Mongolia. The T-Rex was a large, dangerous predator that walked on two powerful legs. It had tiny arms with two fingers each. Their feet resembled birds and were fully equipped with gargantuan claws. Its tail was stiff and pointed, which helped it run. Tyrannosaurus was not a very fast runner and it needed all the help it could get. T-Rex had a solid, muscular body that was up to 40 feet long and 20 feet tall. This beast was estimated to have weighed five to seven tons!…

Dinosaurs roamed the Earth 230 million years ago. They were on this planet for over 160 million years. During this time, there were three different time sections for the dinosaurs. There was the Triassic period, Jurassic period, and the Cretaceous period. The Cretaceous was the last period and they became extinct in this time period. Not all dinosaurs became extinct; they have ancestors in today 's the world. The ones that did not survive, no one has a clue how they died out. There is speculation on how they died out, from ice bergs moving and flooding the planet or tar pits. Guess this is something that no one will know for a while.…

Were dinosaurs warm or cold blooded has been a long time debated issue. Scientist believe dinosaurs were much like modern day reptiles, cold blooded, and others believe dinosaurs were much like mammals and others birds, warm blooded. Dinosaurs are creatures that lived on Earth around 251 million years ago. Dinosaurs lived in the Mesozoic Era. This era contained three separate subsections: the Triassic Era, the Jurassic Era, and the Cretaceous. When the Mesozoic Era ended, most or a majority of the dinosaurs were extinct due to a catastrophic event that is still unknown to us today. Dinosaurs walked in an upright position, some dinosaurs used two legs, other used four to walk and move around their environments. Dinosaurs came in an array of sizes. Humans were able to examine the…

Dinosaurs can be classified in the groups known as ornithischians that are bird-hipped dinosaurs. The saurischian, were reptile-hipped dinosaurs. Even though birds are avian their common ancestor are non-avian saurischians. “Birds have many ancestors such as the Dilophosaurus, Allosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, and lastly leading to the Archaeopteryx. The closest ancestor of dinosaurs to birds are the Archaeopteryx. From each lineage or generation dinosaurs inherited certain features that make them distinct to birds today” (Lee, Nash, and Dyke 2014). For example the hip socket, the claws, the wings, and the inherited able to fly. The Archaeopteryx lived in the Jurassic Era. That eventually ended in extinction.…

In the Early Triassic, it is said that Therapsids would dominate the Early Triassic period. The Early Triassic Period had no dinosaurs and little animals besides the remaining two groups. A reptile called Lystrosaurus was another animal that was alive during the Early Triassic. The Lystrosaurus returned to the ocean and is said that they swam like modern eels. The Early Triassic section ended 245 Ma which led the animals to evolve more…

    Alamosaurus Essay

Most people think of dinosaurs as enormous, aggressive and extinct reptiles. That is largely true, however there are some misconceptions. They came in all sizes and shapes. Dinosaurs were the biggest land animals on this planet, but several of dinosaurs were smaller than a donkey or a pig. One of the gigantic dinosaurs that is very interesting to study more about it is called “Alamosaurus.” The meaning of Alamosaurus is "Ojo Alamo lizard." It was named after the Ojo Alamo sandstone formation in New Mexico. This dinosaur is a genus of titanosaurian sauropod dinosaurs. They existed in the Cretaceous. We can describe an Alamosaurus as a gargantuan quadrupedal herbivore with an extremely long neck, limbs, and tail. The Alamosaurus was herbivorous dinosaur. The habitat of this extremely long neck dinosaur consisted of “semi-arid plains with water” available spasmodically in the form of swamps and ponds. This long neck is use for forage leaves, fruits, and vegetable from atop tall tree. Furthermore, the long neck and tail also used to protect itself against predators. Even though little evidence has been found, some paleontologists say an Alamosaurus highly possible had body like other sauropods at the time (Armour). An Alamosaurus…

The Mesozoic Era began about 245 million years ago and ended about 60 million ago; it is divided into three time periods: the Triassic the Jurassic, and the Cretaceous. It originated with a mass extinction at the end of the Permian period that eradicated most of the species of that time period. The Triassic Period started right after the end of the Permian period and it is deemed that reptiles were very prominent during this era. The second period of the Mesozoic Era is the Jurassic and the hot and dry climate is deemed to have welcomed the appearance of new dinosaurs. Moreover, the third period known as the Cretaceous is when all dinosaurs ruled the earth and the dominant one began to evolve. However, most research illustrates that the extinction…

High inside the Arctic Circle, in one of the most unforgiving environment on the planet, two teams of paleontologists investigated a 70 million year old mystery. The paleontologist have unearthed dozens of dinosaurs, their bones complied together, fossilized, and preserved in permafrost for eons. The startling discovery of ancient reptiles, also known as the “thunder lizards,” had taken scientists by surprise because it lived and thrived in the arctic. This discovery raises questions as to how the dinosaurs were able to survived in such cold and harsh conditions. This essay will be discussing about how were fossils found, techniques on finding fossils, and whether or not dinosaurs could have evolved to being warm blooded.…

… The dragons of the foothills have crests, of moderate height when young but they grow with them and extend to a great height when they reach full size." The bodies of the plains dragons are sometimes found with elephants, a great reward for hunters. Their tusks resemble those of swine, but more twisted and sharp. "They say that in the skulls of the mountain dragons are stored stones of flowery colors that flash out all kinds of hues." They tell us that "a great many dragons' skulls are enshrined" in the center of the great city of Paraka (Peshawar?) close by the mountain. (3)For over 2 hundred years there have been reports of a living dinosaur in Africa. This creature, which the natives call "Mokele-Mbembe" is believed to be a sauropod type of dinosaur (5). Sauropod means "Lizard-Footed" dinosaur. Sauropods are four-legged, herbivorous dinosaurs. These incidents were reported long before the word "dinosaur" was coined, and long before anyone (in this century) knew they existed. If Mokele-Mbembe is a living dinosaur, then it makes the claim of total dinosaur extinction unfounded. The Congolese people are very familiar with the aquatic dinosaur living in the Likoula swamp region. They call this Apatosaurus-like creature "Mokele-Mbembe" which means: "one who stops the flow of rivers" (5). From the size of this awesome beast this name is sure fitting! They believe this animal (which they greatly fear) is sacred. This belief is due to the illness and death of many in the pygmy tribe after one was killed with a spear and eaten by the people. Of course, the deaths and illness were probably more likely due to spoilage of its meat. An animal this large could have been eaten for several weeks. (5) "Persistent reports of strange creatures in remote, swampy jungles of western Africa have led two scientists to believe…

    Extinction of Dinosaurs

Two-hundred and thirty million years ago the first dinosaur-like creature roamed the earth. Dinosaurs were a very successful and diverse group, dominating the terrestrial environments of the earth for 160 million years. The apparently sudden mass extinction of dinosaurs marks the boundary between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods. Though there is not one definitive explanation to explain dinosaurs' extinction, there are various theories that attempt to account for the mystery of their extinction. The theories that explain their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period are the asteroid, the volcanoes, and the major climatic changes.…

Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, approximately 230 million years ago, and were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the beginning of the Jurassic (about 200 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous (66 million years ago), when the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups at the close of the Mesozoic Era. The fossil record indicates that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs during the Jurassic Period and, consequently, they are considered a subgroup of dinosaurs in most modern classification systems.[1][2] Some birds survived the extinction event that occurred 66 million years ago, and their descendants continue the dinosaur lineage to the present day.[3]…
