Arctic Dinosaur
High inside the Arctic Circle, in one of the most unforgiving environment on the planet, two teams of paleontologists investigated a 70 million year old mystery. The paleontologist have unearthed dozens of dinosaurs, their bones complied together, fossilized, and preserved in permafrost for eons. The startling discovery of ancient reptiles, also known as the “thunder lizards,” had taken scientists by surprise because it lived and thrived in the arctic. This discovery raises questions as to how the dinosaurs were able to survived in such cold and harsh conditions. This essay will be discussing about how were fossils found, techniques on finding fossils, and whether or not dinosaurs could have evolved to being warm blooded. Fossils are the preserved remains, or traces, of animals, plants, and other organisms left behind. Fossils are mostly found where sedimentary rocks of the right age are exposed, such as river valleys, cliffs, and hillsides. Paleontologists are scientists who studied fossils, collecting fossils from all over the world. The fossil record provides evidence about the history of life and past environments on Earth. In addition, scientists use fossils to study the rate at which evolution has occurred. The fossil record supports and gives credence to the theories of the super continent known as Pangaea. Evidence for Pangaea includes fossil distribution. In terms of fossil distribution, paleontologist have found matching fossil remains of ancient species in continents are separated by thousands of miles of oceans today. Based on the evidence scientists have found in plate tectonics, it is likely that Pangaea was not the only super continent to exist on Earth but perhaps even more. Data found in fossils shows the information that the formation and break up of super continents are a cycle through Earth history and are continuing even today.
