Differences Between Samurai And Knights
How did the governments in ancient times maintain order in society? Over 1000 years ago two societies on opposite sides of the globe adopted a system called Feudalism to maintain order. In both places warriors defended the land of wealthy landowners. In Europe the warriors were called Knights, and in Japan they were known as Samurais. Does this make Knights and Samurais the same? After reading the DBQ is clear that Samurai and Knights have more differences than similarities. For example, some major differences were their military codes and their armour. Some may say that the Samurai and Knights were more similar than different because they were both warriors. That may be true true but all in all the differences outweigh the similarities with ease.

After all, they were both used for the same purpose (to protect their Lord or Daimyo). They also were paid with land and peasants to farm that land. Although these two facts are true, there are many more reasons on why the empires were different then why they were the same. For example, some facts are, these two empires were around 5100 miles apart which at the time was nearly the whole discovered world. The Knights were better prepared and took longer to train the Samurai, who armorwise were not very beetle prepped. In document C, it says how much time each warrior takes to train. It states, “At about age 14 the trainees officially became samurai in a ceremony called genpuku” (Doc C). It also states in document C, “If a squire [gained approval from] an examining knight, he would usually [become] a knight at around the age of 21” (Doc C). These two statements are saying that usually a Samurai trainee would become a Samurai at around age 14 when a Squire would become a knight around 21 years
