After all this years the most important thing I have noticed about films based on books is that they are never accurate and there is always a big difference in story. I feel like movie makers have their own opinion about a story which they think might get more people to watch movie. In the movie the main thing that changes is headless horseman becomes real where as in book Brom bones. In the movie the horseman actuallly kills people where as in book there are only sightings.
