Dietary Supplements
The young teenage boy was bullied and abused everyday his high school life. The bigger jocks physically and mentally abused him because he was much smaller and weaker compared to them. He asked God everyday why he can’t be blessed with muscle. God never responded to his prayers, and the young boy killed himself. If only the young boy would have considered the use of dietary supplements, he would have been able to achieve the muscle he so long hoped for. Dietary supplements are way to help achieve those goals. The supplement industry annually brings in seventeen billion dollars each year (Dagerman). Day by day people spend their money on dietary supplements to overcome personal obstacles and insecurities. Sixty percent of people in a survey admitted to taking dietary supplements (Dagerman). Supplements have been heavily researched and examined to determine the effects. Studies have showed the addition of dietary supplements in a serious training routine can increase the intensity and the overall effectiveness. Protein, creatine, and pre-workout are a safe, effective way to reach your body’s full potential in all aspects.
There are some concerns of safety with the use of dietary supplements. Only 82% of supplement users in America are positive that their supplement is safe (Dagerman). People are easily persuaded to use supplements with certain media. They feel the need to look like those peoples to think as themselves as normal, and thus better about themselves. Some of those people are willing to take anything that is offered to them without any prior research. For example, between 1993 and 2003, the F.D.A. received 2,277 poor event reports from dietary supplements containing ephedrine (Dagerman). The supplements with ephedrine caused thousands of cases of heart attacks, seizures, strokes and death (Dagerman). The F.D.A. does not treat dietary supplements as drugs.
