This case revolves around Nurul Rahman, a DHL Bangladesh (DHLB) manager who must recommend which of the two human resource information systems (HRISs) DHLB should adopt to alleviate the escalating workload on its human resources (HR) department. The choice between these systems is difficult: the HRIS favored by regional headquarters is significantly more expensive and likely unsuited to DHLB’s unique needs, whereas the HRIS favored by DHLB—although likely effective—seems to be incapable of meeting headquarters’ strong preference for streamlining human resource systems across disparate Asian subsidiaries. Rahman must carefully balance conflicting stakeholder interests and do so against the backdrop of a politically powerful headquarters that can “make or break” managerial careers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.…

The Home Depot at the end of 2000 stands on rock solid financial footing as the World’s largest home improvement Retailer. As they continue to grow in size, so has their outcome of success. Home Depot’s net revenues have grown 208% between FY 1995 and FY 2000. Home Depot’s growth in net earnings over the same period has been 284%. The revenue that the firm is retaining as profits is outweighing the total amount being brought into the company. In 1998, Home Depot was leading Lowes in all earnings except earnings per share. Lowe’s EPS equaled $1.37 to Home Depot’s $0.73.It is important to note the activity ratios when talking about an industry where competitors need to carry a lot of inventory to effectively compete. In 2007, Home Depot had a huge supply chain transformation, which led them to the highest sales in fiscal years. After the fiscal year of 2007, there was a huge decrease in sales due to the recession crisis that happened from 2007to 2009. Home Depot was still able to make profit, but it was lower about 2 million. In 2012, Home Depot had a huge recovery in profits due to the housing market and the demand for supplies to fix the damages made from Hurricane Sandy. Home Depot continually leads in total asset turnover as well as inventory turnover. Home Depot also sells out of their stock 6.71 times per year as to Lowe’s 5.91 times.…

The matrix structure of DHL lends many advantages and disadvantages to DHL. One advantage can be seen in the ability for DHL to accomplish pockets of business via the geographic settings through specific output groups to handle the diversity of business available for DHL. It keeps the different partitions of business in scope of how to best service each geographic region and allow for a leadership support structure to reign over each pocket to provide a unify management system, guidance, and leadership for the different portions of business. The other advantage of the matrix structure is that it allows for a check and balance process for the different groups for DHL to ensure the best overall company structure is established. The disadvantages of having this type of matrix structure is that the section of business has its own agenda and process in how it executes it business model along with difference nuisances and strategies that go with it. When this type of segregation occurs it limits the ability for one area to adapt to another as evidence the HRIS modification that DHLB would have to undergo from the DHL Pakistani to utilize its system. It also builds improper alliance with position of power that limits the reach of voice to communicate feedback or opinion because of fear of backlash. The flow of ideas and best practices is also limited by the barriers of the matrix structure as it keeps each party in their own circle.…
