Descriptive Essay the Beach
Just Like a Dream The place where I feel most comfortable is a place where I am calm. A place that is peaceful where I can go to escape all the pressures and worries of life. It is the place to go to soothe away all my problems and troubles in times of stress. It is the one place where I could sit forever, and never get tired of just staring into the deepest blue I have ever seen. It is the place where I can sit and think the easiest. A place where nothing matters but what is in that little moment. This one place capable of sending my senses into an overload is Coronado Island in San Diego County California.

As I stroll alongside the sandy shore line one particular warm evening, I couldn’t help but be taken in by the soothing atmosphere that encircled me. Walking on the beach of Coronado is like walking on a land of gold, the sand being so soft and smooth, glistens as it reflects the sun’s rays with joy. Looking across the landscape of Coronado beach is similar to looking out into a desert because of its vastness. In three directions there is nothing but mounds of rolling endless sand peppered with palm trees. The sugar-like sand beneath my feet looks like sparkling jewelry and seems to spread out for miles. I close my eyes and feel the velvet-silk sand squish between my toes and collapse under my weight with each step I take making my claves ache. Reopening my eyes I look to the left and see deserted sand castles that struggle to remain intact from the slight breeze slowly blowing them away and admire pale ghost crabs zigzagging like thieves in the night, across the gently sloping sandbanks that made up the beach. I stop walking and look behind me and watch my footprints in the lustrous sand become devoured and washed into nonexistence by the waves.

I hear the wind tenderly whispering in my ears as if it were calling my name. I turn back towards the shore and see tall palm trees sway in the breeze. The wind rustles through the long, green, needle-like leave of the palm tree making calm, gentle, and peaceful sounds. The sounds of Beach Coronado are that of harmony. Another of the sounds I tune to is the sound of the seagulls singing and chirping creating a song in unity with the cool sea breeze while they glide on eddying currents in the wind.

I notice it begin to become darker so I look towards the horizon, and to my surprise, the setting sun hangs in the sky like a red-orange balloon off in the distance. The sky has transformed into a colorful horizon filled with streams of hot passionate colors battling against the icy winter colors. Striking hues of pink grapefruits, zesty lemons, citrus oranges and cherry reds are fighting a hopeless battle against shades of midnight indigo and denim blue. The sun is slowly going down the horizon. As it goes down, the burning light of the sun gets dull and its tint starts to mingle with the light blue color of the sky and produces a breath taking sight. It’s like watching a caterpillar metamorphosis slowly into a butterfly. The dull light of the sun somehow illuminates everything in a way I had never seen them before. Everything is almost still and the effect of the light makes the scene look like one in a beautiful painting. The sea also showing off a wide range of colors that reflects of the surface, like a dancing peacock showing off its finely detailed feathers. The sun is gradually going down and by the time it has almost disappeared, the beautiful spectrum of colors have merged into one another to create a fusion of blue’s and purples. As the daylight falls to the darkness of night I can feel the change in temperature on my skin. A chilly mist can be felt in the wind blowing off the calm sea and soon the soft noises of dusk become the creepy noises of night, and at this time I feel it necessary to retire to the safety of an illuminated house. As I regretfully make my way back to the shore, I glance one last time at the sky and commit this perfect dream like moment to memory. I know for certain I will never forget the pleasant breeze, the sweet smell of salty water mixed in sand and the sound of waves crashing against each other completed the scene of a perfect sunset I had always read about in books.

It was nearly sunset and I was relaxing along the soothing beach in Capitola, California. My brother and sister were assembling sand and shells to make a colossal sand city while my parents were in two chairs chatting. As I was ambling down the oceanfront my feet would feel the chilly waves and I could sense the gentle wind blowing my way. I was reminiscing about the exciting activities previously that day, including swimming through the waves, body surfing, and passing around a volleyball with my brother.…

The thick tree lines and vast open fields bring a sense of freedom and grandeur. The brilliant light shining like beacon of hope with the soft calming breeze flowing across the field is refreshing and pure like a baby after a warm bath. The air seems to be free and clear of the city’s poisonous air pollution and the soft sounds of birds makes it all too refreshing, like a beautiful day on the beach. With quiet clean monuments and buildings dancing across the landscape, the look of peace and quiet seems to be present at last. As the blue crisp skies begin to darken across the brilliant blue pond, the shimmering light hitting the trees is as beautiful as the sun setting on the Catalina Island on a bright blue day with soft clouds flowing across the sky. I have the taste of fresh fruit on my tongue in my mouth as I take a long deep breath, and realize how much the soft green grass adds to the peacefulness in the park. I can hear the cheerful wildlife scampering beyond the tree line, like young children frolicking in their mother’s front yard. As the quiet darkness sets in, and with the city brilliant lights in the background, the serene park makes the bustling city seem peaceful once…

Walking around the beach made me feel more comfortable than ever. As I stroll along, I could feel the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. The sand looked clean like sugar spread out for miles, as it squished between our toes and made my calves ache with every step. The sound of the ocean comforted me, the rhythmic pounding of the waves represses all my worries. I kicked the water and it responded with a swoosh of its waves. That brought back memories, when I used to come here with my friends and used to play around in the water. I couldn’t help but faint a smile. I found it some what amusing to see the sand castles that still remained, the ones we built long ago, the lucky few that made it through reckless little boys play. It was dark outside and stars floated in the distance, but the moon seemed so close, I could grab it and take it in my pocket to keep for myself, so close that I could see it's bright shadow shimmering on the rolling water. Ghost crabs darted past my feet like thieves in the night, going in one hole and out another. One of them climbed to my feet, its legs harmlessly piercing through my skin. I shook it off and it quickly escaped to the nearest hole it could find.…

When I was a young child, my family would go to Silvershells beach in Destin, Florida for a week each summer. I remember that once you had to endure the ten hour drive down there, the paradise that was waiting always made it worth it. I suppose that Destin’s trademark was the smell of Banana Boat suntan lotion that lingered in the lobby of the condo. This is the most heavily air-conditioned room without a doubt. The Victorian-style architecture pillars fell in the middle of the room.…

When one thinks of summer, it immediately comes to mind the sight of sandy beaches, amusement parks and hot sunny days. Coney Island, an extravagant vacation playground to visit especially for the summer. I have recently had an opportunity to come to such a wonderful place that the sights are still engraved in my mind. There were other attractions that I have missed out on mainly since I had only one day there. If time was not an issue, I would have definitely visited more programs that they provide. Getting there is also not a problem due to their cheap and handy subway system. One thing to be cautioned about is that it can get extremely busy on the weekends, so the best time to be there would be on the weekdays, especially if you do not want…

Quickly turning the corner, I strode down the alleyway and escaped the pandemonium of the city. The alley was dark and had an eerie look. Old vines climbed up the sides of tall apartment buildings and trash was strewn across the ground. I looked to the ground and saw a dated coca-cola bottle whose label was half gone and the glass was almost stained black. Slowly I bent down and picked up the bottle and began weighing it my hand and looking it over. Still capped and full but it did not seem to be liquid any longer. I continued walking down the alleyway, all the while flipping the glass bottle in my hand. It mesmerized me and I carried on like this for several minutes unaware of the world around me. Out the corner of my eye I noticed a stray cat pouncing on his prey. In that moment, the bottle dropped to the ground and…

We stroll on the beach, and my feet sink into the soft sand. I stroll along, and the grainy, slick, brown sugar sand pulls my bare feet under and leaves a perfect imprint. I pick up a handful and sift it from my palm slowly, feeling the grittiness of sand with each finger. The view down the beach of the white, but slightly brown sand was enough to make my knees go weak. The sand is such a sensational feeling between my toes and a beautiful view against the crystal blue water.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
