Descriptive Essay About Silvershells Beach in Destin, Fl
When I was a young child, my family would go to Silvershells beach in Destin, Florida for a week each summer. I remember that once you had to endure the ten hour drive down there, the paradise that was waiting always made it worth it. I suppose that Destin’s trademark was the smell of Banana Boat suntan lotion that lingered in the lobby of the condo. This is the most heavily air-conditioned room without a doubt. The Victorian-style architecture pillars fell in the middle of the room. Once you’re able to get settled in your room, standing on the balcony is ideal while you wait for everybody else to get ready. The view from here is always what my brain pictures when I think of Destin. Depending on the time of day, you’d be able to little dots on the beach that are people milling around on the flour-white sands of the shoreline. Even though I was fourteen stories in the above the ground; there was water disappearing into the horizon line as far as my eye could see. Up here on the balcony, you are unable to hear much due to the cawing of seagulls passing by religiously. The stargazing view from this balcony at night is clear and vivid. Depending on what time one woke up the following morning, when you walked outside you would get a whiff of the Sandbar’s burgers on the charcoal grill that would instantly capture your stomach’s attention. If that did not draw you near to the shack-like bar, the Beach Boys music that was blasting loud would. Since we normally go in the summer, I am used to watching the PGA Masters event on the Sandbar’s Sony 72” flat screen. Below the Sandbar’s deck are a flight of stairs. The bottom 3 steps are covered in sand that has a consistency similar to that of flour. As you step onto the sand for the first time of the day, you would find it hot from hours of exposure to the morning sun. The sand would be rather tossed at the step-in spot from where earlier beach patrons had previously stepped and are now walking around in front of you either

For this Field report, I visited a wooded area that is near the beach in Chesapeake Beach. From a quick glance, I saw a combination of mature trees and young trees. Since I can see that the trees lost their leaves during the Fall, I will state that they are deciduous trees. They shed their leaves through the process of abscission. For the mature tree in this picture I observed that the trunk is darker than the younger trees in the background and about 15 to 20 feet tall if not higher. Walking through the fallen leaves you can hear branches and twigs break and when I touched the soil it did not feel totally dry since it rained the day before.…

The first few steps after the boardwalk may feel rather rocky due to scattered sediments and tiny pebbles sticking on to the soles of your feet, but by halfway to the ocean, it starts getting smooth and cooler with every step you take. If laying around and catching some ray is not your type of fun, there are beach volleyball courts set up, kites to be flown here and safe swimming with lifeguards on the look out. Gazing at the sandy shore, you can see the roaring waves rushing in, toppling forts and castles made out of silken sands that shimmers under the blazing sun like tiny luminous stars in the night sky. Take advantage of this peaceful, quiet moment by standing on the shoreline and wait for the rolling ocean water slide by the ankles of your leg. As the waves try to pull back in, you will feel a sinking sensation on the heels of your foot due to the pressure of your weight and the surrounding sand. Lastly, there is an area for youths with a big, plastic palm tree set up in the middle and tiny sprinklers around it, spraying cold, chilling drops that can be felt even to the people strolling on the boardwalk. The beach is always crowded with families and couples to enjoy on their days off and especially on Friday nights, gorgeous firework shoot off can be seen starting at 9:30p.m. (Only during the summer…

This scene is set with the description in the paragraph. “Warm and clean” is how the room is described and the drawn curtains implies a relaxed, safe atmosphere. With the soda water, whisky, and ice cubes ready, it is obvious that they were planning to have a very stress-free afternoon. An image of a very sunny day is given because the room is warm and the curtains would not be drawn if there is not a sunny day. The advertisers capture a strategic snapshot of New York City, one that places the couple and the condominiums out and above the the city and in their own private, luxurious world. The position they occupy, at the forefront of the city, above the clogged freeway, looking out at the water, is one of importance, power, and dominance. The nighttime setting furthers this goal, as nighttime is when the natural beauty of the landscape is subordinated to the man-made beauty of the city—the lights emanating from buildings and other development. This primes viewers to associate development positively and connote privacy and luxury with the condominiums being advertised. The limited text that appears furthers these aims, as it signals an abundance of space and time, emphasizing to buyers a sense of their own importance and the life they could live in one of the properties. With its promotion of development, luxury, privacy, and self-importance, the ad is an endorsement of wealth and financial achievement directed in part at an audience of young, ambitious, readers of The New York Times Magazine who either occupy or aspire to occupy the positions of the man and women in the…

Six long hours after departing Hotchkiss, we finally reached our destination. We pulled into the parking lot of the Super 8 just off Interstate 76 in Sterling, Colorado. Since I had been to this hotel on a previous trip to Sterling, I began wishing I had brought my swimsuit along. Mom and dad went inside and got the keys for room 129. I was so sick of riding in the car that I did not care what the room looked like as long as there was a bed for me to sleep on. As we entered the room, on the left there was the bathroom sink, a mirror, and a place to hang our "good" clothes. To the right, was the miniature bathroom. There was not enough space in there for a midget. Stepping out of the entranceway, there was a wooden dresser with a 27-inch television. By the large window, there was a small table. Two queen size beds sat on either side of the nightstand. The purple patterned quilts were quite shocking compared to everything else in the room.…
