I turn the key and hear the old engine turn over a few times, struggling to get going. Eventually it starts. The engine sounds rough when cold, but with a few quick revs, it starts to sound a little better. The “check” light flashes at me until I press the brake pedal to let the car test the brake lights, or press the “check” button on the roof near the sunroof adjustment switch, between the two visors. When I press the “check” button, seven small, red, LED lights brighten to show me that they are functioning properly. They are there to warn me of low oil, or low coolant, or to let me know if any brake lights, taillights, or headlights are not working. Clicking the sunroof button reclines the glass above my head. The sun beams into the interior and heats the leather. From the front seats, the pealing and fading grayish-silver paint on the hood is visible. The dark brown dashboard has several cracks, is dusty, and feels smooth to the touch. The tan glove box is protected by lock and secured with all the important documents. The modern stereo was installed improperly and sometimes different speakers fade in and out, and the stereo needs a nudge to get the sound to play in those speakers again. The dashboard lights are very dim at night, and can hardly be seen. The center console contains the dark-brown gear shifter, and around that are four window switches that correspond to the two power windows.
Sitting upright in the driver seat gets the sweet smell of food. Fries, Burgers, spilled sour patches, and beef jerky (luckily it only the smell that fills the air, and not the actual food products). Once it starts rolling, the windows go down and the only smell that’s present is the scent of New Jersey pollution. Gas from the vehicle in front of me drips off and skims my tires. The smoke that people are blowing out from cigarettes ahead fills my surroundings with remembrance of death.
The car sounds old, and it seems the engine makes a lugging

Ever since him or I can remember, Richard has wanted a 1973 Chevrolet Camaro. It's lightweight, high-powered, 307-cubic inch engine puts out more than enough horsepower. He pictures himself driving around town with Cherise, his girlfriend, and I. Finally, last summer Rich found a 1973 model and cheap, too. Those cars has taken over his life. Sometimes I stop by his house, and him and Cherise are oiling this or tightening that. Cherise tells Rich and I that she loves the Camaro as much as him. It's not a wimpy little car like her's. A Camaro growls and sits low to the ground. It's partial front bumper looks like a set of mean chrome teeth. Or, at least, one day when these Camaro is running and painted, it will growl again.…

With 176,000 miles, broken window cranks, stained nylon seats, a massive dent on the right fender, and the pungent fragrance of a high school locker room, my friend Ken’s ’96 green Mazda Protege was the most decrepit, yet beautiful car I’ve ever ridden. It could have been Ken’s adventurous driving or maybe it was the car sounding like it would explode while idling, but I sometimes feared for my life in that car. Due to its bright hue, Ken nicknamed it “The Green Hornet.” I laughed when I first saw it; however I realize I grew a lot in that jalopy.…

These replace the orange-covered lamps. They look clear but you can still see the orange bulb. This is a nice touch and an easy way to start out. You can also put in a billet grille. This is a grille that you can replace with you stock grille, or bolt it on top. It has many chrome bars that run horizontal across the grille. There is also the speed grille. This is a chrome grille with many holes in it. They make many types of hoods too. You can buy one with a scoop or one that may even be carbon fiber. Hoods can give you a conservative look, or a mean muscular look. Shaving is a neat job too. This means that you can take off your door handles and any emblems you want. People have even been known to shave their taillights. You can buy a custom taillight and mold it into the back of your truck. Lighting is a neat accent at night. You can put halogen bulbs in your headlights that will give off a blue tint. This stands out very nicely on the road when you drive next to all of the cars with a stock yellow headlight. It also gives your headlamp a bluish tint during the day. You can put bulbs in you corner lenses and your blinkers that will shine pure white at night. When you lower you car you can put an underbody neon kit on it. You can also put neon lighting in your grille or under you hood. You can put a cover on the back of your car called a tonneau cover. When you open the door, the first thing that you would notice is the black interior which is accented by gray and silver. The buck seats are black with a gray stripe running down the middle of the back. The steering wheel has buttons, which allows me to have control of what I feel is the best part of my car, the stereo. The stereo is equipped with XM radio, CD player and even local stations. I am asked all the time if my car has a sound system, but all it has is a factory, Pioneer system in it. Hanging from my rearview mirror is a cyan blue, Hawaiian lei, and black beads, which have blue flowers painted on them. The back seat is entered by sliding the front seats forward. In the back, you can fit three people and from what I have heard it is pretty…

People are always looking forward to their vacation stage. There are numerous options that a person can choose to visit. I assume that the two majority common places people desire for taking a vacation are the beaches and the mountains. Both places offer a variety of amusing activities to do. The beach offers activities that the mountain cannot offer and vice versa. The mountain and the beach are totally different in some kind of way. Even though these are both good quality vacation places, they are different in climate, types of activities, and locations.…

When a car’s engine is running, several different types of gasses and particles are emitted that can have detrimental effects on the environment. Of particular concern to the environment are carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas; hydrocarbons -- any of more than a dozen volatile organic compounds, some of which are known carcinogens; nitrogen oxides; sulfur oxides; and particulate matter, tiny particles of solids, such as metal and soot. Other emissions that affect human health and create smog include ozone and carbon monoxide. (See Reference 1) The good news is that despite the increase of vehicles on the road, air quality today is actually better than it was in the 1970s, thanks to the 1970 Clean Air Act. In fact, lead emissions from cars have been almost completely eradicated because of the phasing out of leaded gasoline. (See Reference 2, page 2)…

“When you smoke herb, it reveals yourself to you,” is a famous quote of the pothead and marvelous musician Bob Marley. He felt as though marijuana helped tune in with your inner being. I believe cannabis that cannabis does this too and therefore have become a habitual marijuana consumer. Being in tune with ones inner being is important, yet not the reason that I smoke cannabis. The cannabis plant is beautiful, from the leaf to the buds you smoke. I love the ‘highs’ from smoking marijuana, and last but not least, I love how I can function while ‘high’. The summary is that little nuggets of joy have been crucial in making me who I am now, and I am grateful for everything marijuana has brought.…
