Perhaps one of the most important theme of The House on Mango Street is the appearance of home and identity. Esperanza, who constantly moving from house to house, did not feel like she was belonging to the house she lived in with her parents. Esperanza searching for a house of her own also symbolized the searching for her own identity. Toward the end of the book, she said that the house she has been searching for is the house she only dreamed of,…

The House on Mango Street shows the reader the life of a Mexican-American girl through the character's eyes. Only, the story isn't just about her ethnicity and poor environment, it's about finding a home and growing up. Everybody could learn a lot from her. She teaches people of determination, inner strength, and connections that can't always be explained. Cisneros' vignettes read like individual stories with one big purpose and that in itself is beautiful.…

When I was a kid, about 5 to 8 years old, my hands would always get cold whenever the surrounding air is chilly. My dad would always tell me to rub them together, like you would in order to make fire. And so I did it. I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed. My fingers grind against each other from the tips of my little fingers to the base of my palm, but none of this worked. My hands still are cold, stone cold. Then my dad said after watching me rub for a whole 3 minutes: You can stop rubbing your hands when they are warm again, as rubbing would make your skin raw. I replied: But they're still cold. Then he told me to hold out my hand and he started rubbing warmth into my hands; his strong, rough hands massaging my palms, my fingers, then suddenly my hands are warm again. After a while, I wondered: will my hands ever become tough and strong like my father's?…

The closest story that I would base myself off of would be the Translating Grampa's House. I mostly chose it because I draw just like the main character in the story. While I read the story Translating Grampa's House I thought of why I chose it. Also how I would write the essay. Another reason I chose Translating Grampa's House as my story is that we have teachers just like the main character in the story. Mostly how all schools have teachers. Also how all schools have classes that have teachers. Without teachers, there would be no classes. The other reason why I chose Translating Grampa's House is that how the main character has art classes at his school. I also have an art class at my school. Most schools have art…

Gatsby’s wealth came from a desire to be rich, and this desire to be rich derived from his need for materialistic items and belongings. For example, Gatsby is known for having one of the most luxurious houses in his respected home town.
