Dermatologist Career Research Paper
Career Research At about the age of twelve, I was sure that my career path would be in the medical field, specifically some type of physician. I had a natural interest and a fitting personality type that would take me far in the field. By my last year of middle school, I knew I wanted to have a career where I could have a sense of purpose, gain recognition, and always expand my knowledge. The career that evoked all of these attributes for me was Dermatology. I believe this career choice is right for me. As a dermatologist, I will have many responsibilities. I’ve already met my high school credentials by taking science courses such as biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physics, along with math courses like algebra and geometry. In addition to those courses, I studied Latin for three years, which will help me in my medical school studies. In college, I will need to earn a bachelor’s degree, preferably in biology or chemistry, and concentrate on more science courses like biology, physics, organic chemistry, and inorganic chemistry (“Dermatologists”). This will prepare me to take the Medical College Admission Test by the end of my junior year or the beginning of my senior year of college. Once I take the MCAT, hopefully scoring well, I can apply to medical schools. Only 1/3 of students get accepted into medical school, so the preparation beforehand is very critical. After four years of medical school, earning my M.D, my next step will be to take the examination given by the National Board of Medical Examiners in order to receive a license to practice in my home state. The final steps to reaching my career goal include an additional four years of residency specializing in dermatology and lastly being certified by the American Board of Dermatology (“Dermatologists”). Besides meeting the educational requirements, physicians specializing in dermatology need exceptional observation skills, need to be detail oriented, and have excellent memories. They should also be able to empathize with their patients
