The patient was nervous from the start; she was afraid of the local anesthesia injection, and although the assistant tried to pass the syringe to the doctor away from the patient’s line of sight, the patient saw it and her eyes bulged. However, she was cooperative and stayed fairly still. Dr. Mangelson used a large scalpal to cut the gingiva away from the teeth using the sulcus as a guide. He made flaps on the buccal and lingual sides. He cut out the areas of excess tissue just distal to tooth #1. During the procedure, he convinced the patient to let him use that excess tissue to do a…
Do you know what an endodontist does? Chances are, unless you work in dental care, you don’t know that this is a dental specialist who performs root canals. Attachments are very small blocks of tooth-colored dental resin that are adhered directly to teeth that need it, and the shape and position of the button can help rotate teeth into position when combined with the pressure from the clear aligners. Buttons are also small pieces of resin placed on teeth that are used to anchor traditional dental elastics to. Dental hygienists use an assortment of tools to complete their tasks. Hand and rotary instruments and ultrasonic devices are used to clean and polish teeth, which includes removing tartar, stains, and plaque. Hygienists use x-ray machines to take dental pictures, and sometimes develop the film. They may use models of teeth to explain oral hygiene, perform root planning as a periodontal therapy, or apply cavity preventative agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants (Bureau of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition, Dental Hygiene). They also help patients develop and maintain good oral health. For example, explaining the relationship between diet and oral heath and informing patients how to select toothbrushes and show them how to properly and adequately brush and floss their teeth.…
I the practice I work for, there are two locations and each has one hygienist. I work at the Clearwater office and the other hygienist at the Tarpon office. To ensure inter-observer reliability in dental hygiene diagnosis, both office has the same types of instruments. I have to say, before I started working there, the office had old and not uniform instruments. It took me about five months to build up the armamentarium in my office. Now, each instrument kit has Metal UNC12 metal probes that I use for periodontal probing. Tarpon office started using the same type of instruments as well. Sometimes we have patients migrating between the two offices and it is important to ensure that probing is performed using the same technique (6 reading around…
Ancient Romans also would make gold teeth for teeth cosmetic, but then would pull the gold teeth out when someone passed away, because it was a rule in their culture. Romans made many of their own pain medication for the teeth, they would use worms, crow and brains of frogs. The most popular medication was call opium, which they used if they had to pull a tooth out or doing anything painful in the mouth. Since dentist position did not exist back then and there needed to be a tooth pulled or removed that position was turned over to a barber. The barbers would use leeches if they need to do a tooth extraction, they would also remove loose teeth, rotten teeth and decayed teeth, since there was no formal medication for helping those things from happening.…
Individual characteristics include the size and shape of tooth, shape of root, placement of tooth, quantity of tooth, and combinations of dental work done; crowns, extractions, bridge, fillings, and root canals. But, teeth can be grinded if a person wanted to disguise their bind, making bite mark impressions unusable. Bite marks can also contain saliva, and as teeth are a source of DNA (dental pulp or a crushed tooth can provide nuclear or mitochondrial), it can help identify a person. They are needed for missing individuals, as they would be able to be identified through their teeth because teeth are strong enough to last for a long period of time. Since each human has an individual set of teeth, it can be used traced back to established dental…

Traditionally caries removal was accomplished using rotary carbide burs andhand instrumentsto excavate until it feels as hard as normal dentin. Thisprocedure is somewhat imprecise because it is practically impossible to provide aclinical description of the boundary between infected and non- infected dentin.Further, the traditional approach is not fundamentally conservative because it oftenresults in cavity preparation that extends beyond the infected outer carious dentin intothe non-infected or lightly infected inner carious dentin or into normal dentin. 1Dentalcarbide burs are designed to efficiently remove non-decalcified enamel and dentin anddo not readily differentiates between carious and normal dentin.…
