According to the population reference bureau around 108 billion different people have lived on earth’s surface, and very few of those 108 billion people can say they changed human history as much as Deng Xiaoping. Deng Xiaoping was born in 1904 and after making his way through the ranks of the communist party, he became the leader of China in 1978. In 1978 Hua Guofeng presented the 10 year plan which was later used under the rule of Deng Xiaoping. After 28 years of life under Mao, the chinese citizens were in desperate need of change and under the rule of Deng Xiaoping China was able to modernize its economy and catch up with the rest of the western world. The chinese military was drastically improved under the rule of Deng Xiaoping. One of the first things Xiaoping did when he took power in 1978 was vow to recognize the need to strengthen the national defense in China. Part of the ten year plan was a goal to spend 300 billion dollars on the military and national defense. Without the modernization of the military under the rule of Xiaoping it is almost certain that China’s military would not be anywhere near the top 3 today. New policies were put into place in order improve the training facilities and to also improve battle The fourth and final modernization under Xiaoping was the modernization of science and technology. During the time mao was in power the west and russia were making tremendous gains in technology and science. Xiaoping knew that China would never be able to compete with the rest of the world if their technology was so far behind. The modernization of technology began in 1978 when thousands of chinese delegates met at a conference to construct a plan that would help them advance their technology. During the Xiaoping’s rule China started to rebuild the infrastructure of China by constructing high tech bridges and factories that were safer and more efficient for workers. Xiaoping reversed the policies of the cultural revolution and focused on helping China’s technology look more like the rest of the world’s superpowers. Xiaoping then took to the media by promoting the use of new technology and the need for new innovative ideas. Xiaoping’s hard work and his vision for the improvement of science and technology set the path way for the rest of China’s leaders and has turned China
