Definition Essay: My Brother
According to Dictionary.com, a “brother” is “a male offspring having both parents in common”(“Brother”). However Dictionay.com definition doesn’t do the word “brother” justice. From being a “brother” for over then 12 years I believe I truly know what a brother means. A “brother” is so much more then just a male offspring that have both parents in common. The true meaning of “brother” is that a brother is someone I can always talk to, someone who will always have my back and someone who will make me a better person. First of all, one reason the dictionary.com definition of “brother” is wrong is because it doesn’t fully explain what a brother is. My brother is more then what dictionary.com has stated. One reason dictionay.com is wrong is that …show more content…
A brother will always have my back no what the outcome is as well as being someone you can trust. For instance, my brother and I were in an argument with my mom and I was in the wrong. However, my brother vouched for me and always had my back saving me from getting into trouble. He is someone to keep me in check making sure I do everything right. For example, at the gym when I was doing pull ups he made sure I was doing them correct. At first I was doing the pull ups wrong or the “lazy” way as my brother likes to call it. By letting me know that I was doing them wrong and helping me correct it probably saved me from getting injured. A brother is someone who I can trust. I can trust my brother to do the right thing and look out for my greater good. For example when, I couldn’t tell my mom, I couldn’t tell my dad and I couldn’t tell my friends I could tell my brother about my situation. Having a brother and being a brother can not be described in 7 words like dictionary.com does. Even only being twelve years old my brother has been there for me in so many different ways. Lastly, the final reason I believe the dictionay.com definition is wrong is because a brother is someone who has made me a better person. My brother has made my life more enjoyable, has made me mentally stronger and overall a better person. My brother makes me laugh,

Although this statement is true, some would disagree and say that the meaning to the word “family” goes far beyond that simple definition. Many people consider friends, schoolmates, animals, friends of a parent, and co-workers to be their family as well. Your whole family can be made up of many people that are not necessarily your real family. The relationship you share with another individual classifies them as a family member. These people may not be your relative at all, but someone you feel a strong connection to for one reason or another.…

The child is mostly taken care by the brothers and sisters who give him most of their attention. The family always wants to ensure that the child receives all the care he deserves. According to the article, “He was a teacher to his brother, and he has grown up to be a more intense thinker; he’s studying business management, and his brother is more easygoing, independent; he’s studying leisure and recreation and has an internship at a golf course.”(Carey). The author mentions that the young brother always learned something from his older brother making him avoid a lot of mistakes when growing up. So they will grow up very well. For example, some kids have some brothers who tell them what thing is good, wrong or what to do or not to do. That behavior is helpful to the young child. However, it’s not much good because it makes the young child more dependent in life. This is because by the brothers helping him to solve his own problems, he will learn to be dependent to someone else other than self therefore giving him more challenges in life.…
