Many people who are against capital punishment are only thinking of the criminal and how cruel it is for them. But, shouldn’t we think of the families that are broken apart now because of the merciless acts of these criminals. Think of Susan Smith, how she knowingly drove her car off into a lake with her two children strapped to the seats. Think of how they must have felt as the cold water started to fill the cabin of the car, and then ultimately drown them. Barbaric is exactly the word I would use to describe her actions. But yet, the jury rejected the death penalty and chose a life sentence instead. Mr. Smith, the father of the two children, broken up from the ruling said "Me and my family are disappointed that the death penalty was not the verdict, but it wasn’t our choice. They returned a verdict they thought was justice" (Bragg, pg. 1+).…

Murder carries a mandatory life sentence, under the Murder (Abolition of death penalty) Act 1965. This can but rarely does, mean that the offender will spend the rest of his natural life in prison. An offender given a mandatory life sentence who is released from prison will remain on licence for the rest of his or her life. The incident of Michael Barton who was racially motivated to murder Anthony walker aged 20, with an ice axe will face a mandatory life sentence. The minimum tariff for racially motivated murders, are 30 years imprisonment. However the tariff may vary, for example in the case of Sean Mercer aged 16, he had shot 11 year old Rhys Jones in August 2007. Mercer was ordered to serve a minimum tariff of 22 years in prison. It was announced by Judge Irwin, that when released he will be under license and will be supervised for as long as he lives.…

Has it ever occurred to you that in this country you can be executed for a crime you didn’t commit, even if the method of killing you is expensive and completely unconstitutional? The government believes that this is the correct way to punish those who have committed horrific crimes. Is this really the best option? I don’t think so. As a citizen of this country, this system of “justice” appals me. The death penalty should be abolished in the United States because it is unconstitutional, comes at a great cost, and is otherwise ineffective at carrying out its intended purpose.…

The death penalty is something that has many countries in the world divided. In my opinion, I believe that the death penalty should be legal throughout the country. There are many reasons as to why the death penalty should be legalized in the country including retribution, deterrence, and morality. Also, because opposing arguments do not hold up, I will discredit the ideas that the death penalty is not constitutional, irreversible mistakes are made, and that race and income will face disproportionality.…

Gary Graham an 18 year old male who was convicted for robbery and murder, with only one witness that claimed she saw him from her windshield thirty to forty feet away. Gary was executed in 2000, 19 years later after being convicted. Imagine someone being sentenced for 19 years, let alone a teenager for being accused with no physical evidence. The weapon that killed the victim was not the same that belonged to Graham. His murder was unjust and unnecessary for that and many more reasons, capital punishment should be outlawed and not be a legal system that deals with the criminals in society. Capital punishment is costly, unjust for minorities and is not the moral right thing to do.…

Whether the death penalty should be legal in the United States or not is a major controversy. People have gone back and forth weighing the pros and cons to each side. One of the questions many people ask is, “Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?” (Drehle, 2015, pg. 6). The death penalty should be illegal because life in prison is a worse punishment and easier on families, it uses up more time and money, people are wrongfully accused sometimes, and lethal injection does not always result in an immediate death.…

Have you ever thought about if the person next to you is a killer or rapist? If the person is, what would you want from the government if the person had killed someone you know? The person should receive the death penalty! Murders and rapists should be punished for the crimes they had committed and should pay the price for their wrong doing. Having the death penalty in our society is humane; it helps the overcrowding problem and gives relief to the families of the victims, who had to go through an event such as murder.…

If I were to ask about the Re-imposition of Death penalty in the Philippines, As a Christian who believe in Jesus Christ as the judge of all judges & believe in the bible as a word of our God & fundamental of our beliefs , I totally disagree with that issue it simply telling us that they’re going to inflict death to a person as a punishment for an offense. It’s absolutely an act of killing. It may be for the good of almost everyone but still it is a sin. You may call me close minded but still it is a sin. The sixth of the ten commandments in the book of Exodus says “Thou shall not kill.” Neither accidental killing (Numbers 35:22-25) nor justifiable homicide (Ex. 22:2) are a breaking of the sixth commandment. Neither killing in war nor capital punishment are necessarily forbidden in this commandment since God required both in certain cases (Ex.21:12). We kill cows, pigs, chickens & we slap flies but we can’t do any of these things to humans. Only humans are made in the image of God. This is why we are not to kill people like we might decide to kill an animal. Humans have special dignity and worth and human life is to be treated as of special worth since we are made in the image of God.…
