For the first assignment I have studied the 2 charts given and showing my findings below.
Chart 1
The data shows that twice as many older people have been questioned compared to 18-24 year olds.
There are only 2 questions in relation to “Community” compared to 10 for neighbours and 1 neutral question. This shows that the balance of questions is displaced and also that interviewees could be placed in more than one question depending on how they interpret the question.
There are similar question such as “I know all the names of my neighbours” and “I know all of my neighbours”.
The 65+ bracket are mostly over 50% in their responses in the first 5 questions which are all positive questions showing community spirit.
The lower age brackets have low percentages to the positive questions as they are a different generation compared to the 65+ and also have quite different social skills and identities.
It is interesting to see that 3% more males answered that they live in a very friendly community compared to females.
There is the same percentage of males and females who have not met all their neighbours yet suggesting that these are in the social class that are professionals or could possibly have just moved to the area or in fact lack the social skills to interact with others.

It can be seen that more have been questioned in the South compared to the North and Scotland. This could be due to population figures. It is shown that Scotland has less than 50% interviewed compared to the South East. However Scotland are achieving high percentages in some of the questions.
It is 9% higher in Scotland than the South East in respect of friendly communities. It could be said that Scotland has a better community structure as they located in a wider area so it gives them more community spirit.
There is a lot of migrant and ethnic minorities that group in the same area and these could account for rises in the community spirit and neighbourly high
