Dark Intentions of the Soul Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” demands your attention the whole time you are reading it because the drama never stops throughout the story. The drama just keeps getting bigger and bigger. An unnamed man tells us every step of the way that he took to kill an old man whose eye resembled an eye of a vulture. The man describes it as saying, “One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture…a pale blue eye, with a film over it” (Poe 2). Even though the man seems to be crazy, he is more of a calculated killer, meaning he is very intelligent and well planned out.
To start with, he is very smart and intelligent because he says, “And now a new anxiety seized me-the sound would be heard by a neighbor! The old man’s hour had come! With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the room. He shrieked once-once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. He says, “Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so, by degrees-very gradually-I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever” (Poe 2). This evidence shows that the man is insane. He wants to take the life of this innocent old man just so he can get rid of his eye! It is like whenever the man thinks of something, he just does it, no matter if it is good or bad.
In conclusion, the man is a very smart and intelligent killer. He never liked the eye, but he loved the old man. Ths relates to life in a huge way. Every person has something that he/she will never like, but still love the person. Even the smallest thing about someone you know that you do not like, could make you take everything away from that man or woman. I will end this argument by saying that the man is a brilliant, smart, planned out, calculated
