Damien Memorial School Research Paper
At Damien Memorial School, what makes us different, unites us. We may all look the same on the outside due to our uniforms, but we are all different people on the inside. As a freshman entering high school at a new school, I was very scared. I pictured high school filled with cliques consisting of nerds, jocks, and the popular people. And honestly, this made me feel very nervous. But it turned out to be completely different. Although Damien does have cliques, unlike other schools our cliques link up with other cliques. When I first came I automatically clicked with the jocks due to my participation in sports. Playing summer volleyball and basketball league helped me make friends. But those weren’t the only friends I made, I also made friends

The dictionary defines brotherhood in two ways. The first is, the condition or quality of being a brother or brothers. The second is, all those engaged in a particular trade or profession or sharing a common interest or quality. These two definitions of brotherhood show the basic criteria of a brotherhood. The one thing the definition does not put into perspective is the deep brotherhood of the Rockhurst High School Swim & Dive team. The Rockhurst High School Swim & Dive team is a brotherhood. “At Damien Memorial School, what makes us different, unites us.” Over the years that I’ve been here at Damien I’ve come to realize that the quote above is rather true in ways that other schools haven’t quite experienced. Despite the fact that we’re a pretty small school compared to Punahou, Kamehameha, Iolani, or Sacred Hearts, we’re all different whether it’s our personality or our ethnic backgrounds. These two things help to unite all of us as a community to understand people whose ancestors are from different parts of the world and how it has shaped someone and their life. If it weren’t for the diversity amongst the students and teachers at Damien, it would be boring because everyone would be the same. Nevertheless, diversity allows us to…

At the beginning of the school board meeting, the changing of the curriculum at Fellows Elementary School was debated. A woman with a son that’s in Mrs. Francos’ 1st grade class at Fellows Elementary School spoke to the board about a pilot program. She shared her passionate grievances about five different tests that were given to her son and her son's class only. Another woman with three children at Fellows, claimed that her son was being discriminated against. Mrs. Francos’ class was the only class that was required to take the pilot. This included three different literacy programs. This woman went as far as to threaten taking her son out of Mrs. Francos’ class and putting him to another class.…

While societal pressures and norms may give opportunity for individuals to stand out, it has also taken over societies such as Scarsdale High School to a large extent. In Scarsdale, children will feel an aching need to meet the high expectations of their surrounding peers. Many have credited this to an intangible force and need to always impress teachers, peers, and parents as well. Children have admitted to doing extracurriculars and community service solely for the purpose of getting into the best university possible. That may not be an issue, however, in many cases these children are striving to get into colleges they may not even enjoy. Everyone is aware of the name Wake Forest University carries. Obviously, I too want to be part of the Demon Decan Community. Wake Forest embodies the community spirit that encourages intellectualism and promotes civic engagement. The biggest reason for transferring to Wake Forest University is the philosophy of educating the whole person. As an Aga Khan Foundation Youth Ambassador, I was heavily involved with sustainable projects that had a purpose of solving challenges the ambassadors identified in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. Neither of our projects were one day projects, or charitable in any sense. Because the Aga Khan Foundation focuses on sustainable development, the ambassadors make sure to model the work and “Think globally, act locally.” Rooted deep into Wake Forest’s community is the…

Escondido Christian School ( ECS ) is an amazing school, I love and am extremely lucky to be going here. However, there are some things that I think if we upgrade some things, it would make the school a little more fun from Kindergarten, all the way up to eighth grade. So, I thought of a few things that I think would be really fun. The first thing that I thought of was, I thought would be the most fun. Cheerleading was one thing that the school doesn’t have and lots of people would probably want to do it. I was thinking that we could have it for an elective, but there would also be a cheerleading team for people who really wanted to cheerlead. The team could practice after school when the sports teams would have practice and could cheerlead at games. The only problem with that is that the boys and girls both have games at the same times. So to solve that problem, the team could split up to cheer for both games, kind of like an A and B team so that they could be at both games, except neither of the cheer teams would be better than the other. Another thing is that if we want a cheerleading team, we need uniforms. Those would cost some money, but we could have one of the moms make some uniforms. Per person you would need…
