Cyber Bullying

Cyber bullying is a serious problem among teens that requires sustained attention considering the long-lasting psychological effects bullying brought to the victims and perpetrators. According to Elizabeth Landau on her article “When bullying goes high tech”, cyber bullying is a lot common with bullying in school which includes harassment, humiliation, teasing and aggression. However, cyber bullying presents unique challenges in the sense that culprits can attempt to be anonymous and attacks can happen at any time of day or night using the internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones, just for entertainment and laughs to get reaction while for others anger, revenge or frustration had been their impulse for cyber bullying.
Cyber bullying can take many forms including:
Sending mean messages or threats to a person's email account or cell phone
Spreading rumours online or through texts
Posting hurtful or threatening messages on social networking sites or web pages
Stealing a person's account information to break into their account and send damaging messages
Pretending to be someone else online to hurt another person
Taking unflattering pictures of a person and spreading them through cell phones or the Internet
Sexting, or circulating sexually suggestive pictures or messages about a person
Such acts can be very damaging to children, adolescents and teens as it may lead to anxiety, depression or even suicide. So as a first step to toward preventing it is to speak out and take action against cyber bullying. Giving appropriate attention to cyber bullying could help create a better generation of cybercitizens eliminating the cyber bullies around.
With this issue, IECEP DLSL SC takes a stand against cyber bullying. In order to help reduce the cyber bullying, the organization will take action to prevent and deal with the consequences of this acts. The first place is to begin an education campaign to address its effects for the teens to be accountable of their action. Conducting seminars to help them understand how much bullying hurts, and how words can hurt, then cyber bullies might be encourage to stop and think before doing something offensive. Likewise, to put an end to cyber bullying completely anonymous method of reporting cyber bullying to authority like school administration, community groups, and school policing staff or even to the organization for further actions will be considered.
