Critical Thinking Examples
After taking the self-quiz and receiving a score of two I learned that I am probably a low self-monitor. Out of the nine statements the two statements that I put a check mark next to were the statements which stated that in different situations and with different people, I often act like a very different person and that I’m not always the person I appear to be. After reflecting on my score and the concept of self-monitoring I’d say that for the most part I agree with my results. It is said that low self-monitors prefer encounters in which they can act like themselves by expressing their values and beliefs, rather than abiding by norms and I can very much relate to this. Personally, I would rather be in situation in which I can be myself rather than to be in a situation in which I feel I am not being my true authentic self to only satisfy societal norms. Along with the subject of high self-monitors I am not one who prefers situations in which clear expectations exist regarding how I am supposed to communicate as I am not fond of outside sources such as society defining how I should communicate in said situations. For these reasons are why I agree with my results that I I am probably a low self-monitor. However, there are a few aspects which I question a little regarding being a low self-monitor. For example, high self-monitors are said to have the ability to alter their behavior to fit any type of social situation and I feel that in some aspects I relate to this. For example, if anybody is hurt, sad, or upset I will switch to an understanding mode and do my best to give them my undivided attention, tune into their feelings, and help them resolve their problem. However, I will not alter my behavior in order to make sure that it is in accordance in regards to any expectation. And for this reason, is why I question whether I may not be 100% a low self-monitor as it appears I have a characteristic of being a high

    The textbook in chapter one page 4 defines critical thinking as: a collection of skills we use every day that are necessary for our full intellectual and personal development it basically means to be able to have good judgment , make good decisions, and how to think rather than what to think. Critical thinking helps considerably in problem solving. Without critical thinking, one must rely on old and outdated information.
