Creative Writing On Crooks
The crack of gunfire in the defining darkness drew him from his sleep. He silently awakened his raw-boned family. Sitting up and listening to the pandemonium which lay outside of the windowless skyscraper. The fire danced around creating demonic shadows upon the walls and across their gaunt faces. The man held his wife’s only hand as they rolled back to their sleep. The lemon soured light beamed throughout the city resting like a gargantuan beast, overpowering the horizon. The Dilapidated buildings, the burning city, a destroyed world. Once again he was first to rise.

Untangling himself from the sheets he stood staring with watchful eyes upon the city. Leaning over the barrier and squinting, the edge of the next dimension was just visible.

It was dangerous with a young infant, but to stop was to give in to death. Occasionally they were chased by Southerns or Crooks, but at the slight hint of a gang they would vanish. Gangs roamed the claustrophobic alley ways like a pack of wolves. The gangs had no blood feud between members, no wars, no quarrels. They only killed, raped and devoured those who were found on the streets.
People thrashing themselves against the walls like encaged apes. The screams of anger and pain enlivened the air as the family ventured closer. The fear constricted life in the city. Fear led to riots and rioting led to death. Death led to fear. They walked on towards the edge of the city silently. “What do we do when we get there?” the woman whispered. “Get over”, he intoned. “How?” The man could not answer allowing the silence to join the conversation. He wrestled with his thoughts fighting to stay sane over the shattering silence.

A low growl emerged from behind. Slithering from around the corner of the street, a gang member. Men around laughing delirious sounds, like a strange language. The man’s eyes were blood shot with hunger and insanity. His stature large resembling more of a large beast than a human. The family fled like rats. Their derelict shoes beat hard against the harsh pavement but the women’s legs could no longer bear the child weight of her

Rustling and crackling mocked me like the darkness of the shadow, as I took every step. Branches twisted like distorted limb as if trying to grasp hold of me. The malformed mass towered over me, casting sinister shadows. As I walked closer, a brown sign emerged, “Redwood Forest”. Grotesque graffiti scribbled from the dying trees to the dilapidated sign, “Moonlight’s Curse”.…

In the beginning of the story, we imagine a devastating scene. “He had been at home when the ball of fire had burst. There had been a sudden flash and a mighty roar, and he had started to run outside. On the instant, the house had collapsed and he had lost consciousness.” The imagery used here implies that the boy had been trying to escape but the destruction of the house ceased all hope for the boy as he lost consciousness. The sudden flash shows that the boy feels disjointed and confused. This great roar also instills a image of a fierce beast ready to pounce on its prey in the readers mind. The reader begins to tell the boy to get out of there in their…

It came on great bared, tremendous legs. It creaked out in the open, a startled beast, curling it’s watchmaker’s claws at every step. Each leg dragged behind the next, a thousand pounds of white bone, sunk in thick ropes of muscle, as each of the four legs stamped the cold dirt-filled ground. Each thigh shook as the beast walked, even at the slowest pace. And above the legs a giant food incinerator hidden by it’s bare skin dangled with extra weight, while the head slowly dropped in sight of a predator. And the head itself, a thin slab of stone, hovering two feet above the ground. Its mouth hanging wide open, you could see the as sharp as a knife, teeth waiting to capture its lunch. Its eyes narrowed in on the taunting prey.…

“Go, Go!” yelled the guard, pointing at this small squared outlet in the ground. Hysteria enlightened in me, and my mind overdosed itself with adrenaline. Tackling the herds, I held my sisters hand and whipped through the crowds not caring who was in front of me. We walked inside, and realized we weren’t alone. The underground world was flooded with people as far as I could see which carried rows and rows of people with distressed looks. The guard ran in and as soon as he did, all we heard was blistering screams from those who were not part of the…

The wind howled through the woods. The trees violently swayed, threatening to topple with ever shudder. The rain tore through the night, drenching everything in it's path. The dark grey sky crackled with energy, illuminating the whole forest for a fraction of a second. An almighty BOOM sounded throughout the forest, and all surrounding areas. A single spear of lightening darted down to the forest floor gone before a second glance. The sky rumbled; a dark ominous sound.…

I look down for a last time, assessing the shadows the assassin disappeared into. He had gone into what looks like an alley; it was the darkest one where no one stood by, and people who walk past seem to quicken their feet. They probably feared alleys due to a common children’s tale: The Monster in the Alley. The story tells of a monster which stretches out its arms and pulls mortal lives into the never ending blackness. Mothers tell their sons and daughters that unlucky victims would not know what had struck them, until they find themselves ten seconds from…

Years of continual contempt from those she was trying to help weighed heavily. Wearily she looked around the room, her eyes searching for inspiration. She knew she didn’t have long before the rest of the men in the room followed the lead from the man who was now revelling in watching her distress. Her throat tightened, she felt like a caged animal, helpless and imprisoned, a prisoner of her skin colour and her heritage. The sun stopped shining in the corner.…

The inferno raged and made that sickening noise as it burned my possessions and swallowed them like it was about to swallow me. I realized that my only escape was to exit the room and hope that the fire had not spread. In trepidation, I slowly held the door ajar and peered at the inferno outside my room. Indeed it had spread and the choking taste of smoke filled my lungs as I coughed aggressively into my duvet. I felt as if everything inside of me was slowly making its way up my neck and out of me, as I coughed once more for my life.…
