Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank founded the Home Depot in 1978. Along with investment banker Ken Langone and merchandising expert Pat Farrah, the founder’s vision of one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourselfer became a reality when they opened the first two Home Depot stores on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. The first stores, at around 60,000 square feet each, were enormous warehouses that dwarfed the competition and stocked 25,000 SKUs, much more than the average hardware store at that time. Empty boxes piled high on the shelves gave the illusion of even more product and in only one year they opened a 4th store in Atlanta and the company had annual sales…

There are many different exclusive brands that Home Depot carries such as Ryobi, Workforce, Thomasville cabinetry, Ralph Lauren paint, Hampton Bay lighting and ceiling fans, and Glacier Bay faucets. These are just to name a few but these brands are very popular within the home rebuilding industry and are in stock throughout the thousands of Home Depots around the world. There are many services that Home Depot offers to its customers, employees as well as the community. First of all Home Depot has many knowledgeable employees willing to work with customers to show them how to do a certain project. Home Depot also has demo areas around the store in which customers can try out products they are planning on purchasing. For example if a customer is interested in a certain brand of floor buffers or polishers, Home Depot can help them with their decisions. If the customer has no experience operating a floor buffer, they can learn and operate one right there in the store instead of damaging a newly purchased one at home. Customers really appreciate this and feel that Home Depot truly cares about helping them. By allowing employees and customers to create these friendships and relationships, it keeps customers coming back, and makes employees feel appreciated. If you stop and think about how much money is spent on repairs and changes to homes, it will make sense why I choose to look at the Home Depot to really understand my community. Walking around the store and talking to employees about their experiences I found out Home Depot is not a good representation of the surrounding area but its own little biotope. It seems to have to have a higher amount of special crowd that is attracted to the store, its own idioms and offer its own incentives.…

Brazil, the largest country in South America, fifth largest country in the world, sixth largest economy in the world, and second largest emerging market worldwide is a vigorous marketplace to enter. Disposable income has increased significantly in recent years, GDP, driven by significant rises in exports and less reliance on imports, has made the country one of the world’s best performers, and investment in infrastructure and services, driven in part by global sporting events, has raised the standard of living not just in major cities but also more rural areas. There is a global spotlight on Brazil right now due to hosting a major U.N. sustainability summit this year, the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. With a population of over 201 million and a forecasted economic growth rate of over 2.5% annually, Brazil looks to be an advantageous market to introduce POM Wonderful to.…

One of the main reasons we chose Brazil were for its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $2,282 trillion (CIA World Factbook 2011 estimate), which is the eighth-highest in the world. There are over 200 million consumers our small business can reach in this South American country, which is more than five times as many that live in the state of California alone. However their pure scale and size are not the only reasons to consider this country; exponential growth is another reason. Similar to China, Brazil has traditionally relied on its domestic economy, but that is recently changing and at a fast rate. Brazil is currently the eighth-largest economy in the world, and they are expected to grow to be the fifth largest in just a few decades. Even during the worst of the global meltdown in the past two years, Brazil’s domestic performance and output was still very solid. This goes to show that the country…
