Cotton Candy
Jamika Roberts Cotton Candy

Nostalgia is defined as a sentimental longing or wishful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations. My nostalgia is associated with cotton candy becsuse it draws back memories of when I was a happy child which helps with the relief of stress. Nostalgia relieves common everyday hasles, pressures, strains, and diffculties. Stress can become difficult to deal with but I believe this coping mechanisum will help. The very first time I had cotton candy was when I was eight years old. My mother, father, sister and I all went to a disney world, a place full of exciting rollercoasters, glorious gifts shops, and iconic characters in life size costumes. Like most children I felt like I landed on another planet, it was as if the world itself disappeared and walt disney built a new one. I was amused so much by all the vibrant colors and interesting sounds that it seemed to be unreal. I felt so exlierated, at that tender age of eight, I could never form my feelings into words at that age. There was so much to do with acers of endless sightings and people to meet, Cinderalla, Belle, and Snow White just to name a few. I did not have the time to wait on my family, I wanted to see everything and I could not let anyone slow me down. I had my mission, to explore as much as I could before I had to go back to my colorless dull life where picture less books and the third grade existed. Nothing could measure up to what I saw. Not even 75 cent ice cream day in the cafiteria could compare to Disney World. Without realizing it I drifted off into this wonderland and began my hunt. At first it was amazing and incredible I couldn't have ever dreamt of something so perfect and breath taking. I remember my eyes would widen when I saw a character I liked such as Mickey Mouse. I saw him from afar and turned to tell my family to look but when I did I noticed I didn't have anyone to share it with. I wasnt

Everyone thinks that Disney World is fun but when I was 4 I thought it was scary. All of those princess’ and scary statues scared me. But the rides were even worse. When I saw the Rockin’ Rollercoaster I freaked out. I knew that my mom would make me try a new something new like the Rockin Rollercoaster. And that's exactly what she did. I don’t really like trying new things but I knew that my sister and my mom would do it too and they wanted to have fun with me. Somehow she knew that I would love that ride.…

There is a fine line between holding on to something sacred to you and becoming obsessive over it. Nostalgia can be a beautiful thing. Afterall, it triggers a sense of happiness and bliss within the individual reminiscing on the past event or thing. Though in some cases nostalgia can be quite crippling to one's life. It can prevent an individual from being able to move on from the past as a result of the euphoric feeling it gives off. In the documentary, The Rock-afire Explosion, a man by the name of Chris Thrash is heavily focused on throughout the film because of his obsession over everything that involves the The Rock-afire Explosion. The Rock-afire explosion was an animatronic band that performed throughout the ‘80s for children at an…

    1. We can define reminiscing as the process of reflecting upon and reliving past events good and bad. This bodes the question of whether or not reminiscing is helpful for elderly people. There was a time when carers and nurses were encouraged to stop elderly people from talking about their past, it was thought that this would damage their mental health and cause them to regress. On the contrary it actually aided care and strengthened care relationships.…

For some reason, I reached across the table and picked up a brown Crayola crayon. The crayon itself was of little use, being unpointed on the end, but still entirely full length. The first thing I did, of course, was peel off the crisp paper that wrapped around it. I felt the smooth and bare surface of the crayon with the pad of my thumb while I thought to myself, “Woah, it reminds me of a really really big Tootsie Roll!” I was instantly full of fascination, spinning the crayon round and round in my fingers as my mouth began to water. “Hmm, I wonder what it tastes like…” It looked like chocolatey goodness, and as a five-year-old, I couldn’t resist.…

I remember crying in my father’s lap, sobbing, saying I didn’t want to do it. The nurse came over to me and said Do you think you could you drink this for me? What is it? I asked. It's sugar water he replied. I drank it so fast not realizing how bad sugar and water could taste mixed together. The next thing I remember was a woman coming to my bed asking me about colors. She said I could pick three. I saw my two favorite colors neon pink and dark purple and I knew those were the ones. Those are the colors I’ll spend the next three months looking at as I am bound to a hospital bed with a metal bar between my legs. I was six years old.…

My trip to Disney land. The cost of the tickets was 95.00 for two adults and one child. Anything in your imagination can’t compare to the attractions you will see. The Mickey mouse landscape made out of flowers is just inside the gate. The landscape is remarkable every where’s I looked. The first attraction I walked to was the white castle where you walk through to arrive at the horse drawn ride which is a ride around some of the attractions. I was amazed with the president’s attraction, I went into a theater and sat down to watch a robot that looked like the real president, he talked about what his achievements were during his presidency, the challanges he defeated and the changes he seen. The next attraction I visited was the house of Mickey mouse, I went inside of an actual house, sat upon furniture, I seen many items in the house and in the back of the house there is a movie theater. After that you go outside to other attractions. I was…

Once as a little kid I planted a lollipop stick in my backyard with the aspiration of it to grow into a lollipop tree. I awoke the next morning to a magical delight. Intertwined in the branches of tree sprung a plethora of mouth watering snacks. I collected the lollipops off the tree and placed them delicately into my basket. I grew up in an enchanted bubble of never ending magic consisting of anything from mansion pillow forts to receiving tiny handwritten notes from the fairies. My mom formed a childhood which allowed my imagination to run wild and it helped foster unbridled creativity. Growing up in this environment formulated the idea that I should reach for the stars and would be able to accomplish anything I set my mind to. During this time in my life I took chances and wasn’t afraid to make mistakes because of the cushion of childhood magic. Life, however, can take the opposite fork in the road at any unsuspecting time and that's when the true story begins.…

During our childhood, there are many events that are memorable and influential; Memories are a part of life. We use our memory function to recall the memories we once had. Memory is a vital part of the learning process. Without it, learning would be impossible. If our brain recorded nothing from the past, we would be unable to learn anything new. All our experiences would be lost as soon as they ended, and each new situation would be totally unfamiliar. If memories hindered or helped people in their effort to learn from their past, it would really have to depend on the individual. Every person is different, so therefore, their memories are going to be different also. These memories are the ones that teach us in our adult life the most affable aspects about ourselves, and our reactions to others. As we look back into our childhood and see those times, we should not have regrets, but we should know that they taught us some positive lessons. Sometimes it is quite difficult to remember too far back into our childhood for a memorable event, but there are a series of events that I still remember to this day ,some of them are fun, some events are sad.…

Cotton fibers are mainly made up of cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will tend to increase the dispersion of the seeds. The cotton fibers are attached to the seeds inside the boll of the plant. There are usually six or seven seeds in a boll and up to 20,000 fibers attached to each seed. The fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile. Although cultivated since antiquity, it was the invention of the cotton gin the most widely used as natural fiber cloth in clothing today. Cotton today is the most used textile fiber in the world. Its current market share is 56 percent for all fibers used for apparel and home furnishings and sold in the U.S. It is generally recognized that most consumers prefer cotton personal care items to those containing synthetic fibers. The largest rise in cotton production is connected with the invention of the saw-tooth cotton gin; it was possible to produce more cotton fiber, which resulted in big changes in the spinning and weaving industry.…

One place I loved as a child was Disney World, in Orlando Florida. The day after school[->1] was out, my parents would take me, my sisters, and brother in law, to Florida. I can remember the excitement I felt as we loaded in the car. The trip took about ten hours. During that time, my family and I would plan our day down to the last detail. First we would ride the roller coaster and then the rocket ride. After driving for what seemed like days, we finally arrived. I remember thinking to myself how big the park was. I felt like a small fish in the ocean. Everything looked so big and so scary. First, we headed straight to the roller coaster. As we got on the coaster car and began up the steep incline, I remember thinking I was high enough to touch the clouds. This roller coaster had to be the biggest in the world! After the roller coaster, our next stop was the rocket ride. The rocket would shift back and forth, move up and down, and pivot all around. I felt like a real astronaut. After all the moving around in the rocket, Daddy decided he would take us to the arcade so our stomachs could settle down. I remember I would always try to win the big stuffed bear at the bottle toss, but it was always too hard. Soon we would be out of quarters, and Daddy would tell us it was time to leave. I can remember my sister and I begging to stay longer, but we always had to go. As we loaded in the car to head to the condo, I can remember thinking to myself that when I grew up I would bring my children to the park and let them stay as long as they wanted.…
