Capitalism and America have a love affair that is mutually a false belief. Productivity and competition make up a portion of what capitalism is. Whereas busyness is the action capitalism creates. As a whole, the incorporation of busyness adopts the smallest aspects of everyday life. In the Adam Gopnik’s essay “Bumping into Mr. Ravioli,” he writes about his three-year-old daughter’s frustration trying to find the time to play with her imaginary friend, Charlie Ravioli. Olivia creates an imaginary friend Mr. Ravioli, a busy New Yorker who “lived in an apartment on Madison and Lexington.” She would frequently state…

Matthew Newton began his article, Art Crime: Graffiti Wars, by explaining a man whom the police identified as the most wanted graffiti artist in Pittsburgh. After bringing the man to court, police had come to realize that he was wanted for crimes that resulted in $212,000 in damages. The case of this man illustrates what people believe as an increasing crackdown on graffiti across the country. Newton addresses the argument of what graffiti art really is. Some says that it is a very complex community that serves a very important communicative message amongst people. To opponents, its simply vandalism and it should be punishable.…

Graffiti and street artists a like have always had a reputation of being the anonymous voice of a nation of rebels, oppressed peoples, and free thinkers a like. Graffiti/street art could be found on just about any surface within and surrounding an urban setting, however it is up to the artist to depict their images on surfaces that could support their rhetorical appeal to the fullest. Artist like Banksy for instance, make a name for themselves when their work strikes a chord with just about everyone who sees their work with just enough knowledge of the human experience to understand the significance of the work. Banksy's "Mobile Lovers" is one of the best examples of effective Graffiti art because we as the audience can negotiate, interpret, and makes sense of the images we see in this work, as discussed by the chapter "Rhetorical Analysis and Visual Media" in Rhetorical Approaches to College Writing. The rhetorical appeals as well as the cannons of rhetoric are readily identifiable through Banksy's work with the aid of background knowledge of who Banksy is.…
The artist that I have chosen for my case study is the reclusive, elusive, mysteries man known only as Banksy. “Banksy began his career as a graffiti artist in the early 1990s, in Bristol's graffiti gang DryBreadZ Crew. Although his early work was largely freehand, Banksy used stencils on occasion. In the late '90s, he began using stencils predominantly. His work became more widely recognized around Bristol and in London, as his signature style developed. He is also known for his use of copyrighted material and subversion of classic images.” (The Biography Channel website) Most of his work is what most would call graffiti or street art although over time and with reckless abandon he has taken a counter-culture society from backstreets to galleries around the world. Banksy first gallery show a self-funded event in 2003 titled turf war the venue being a rented run down warehouse. I truly respect his anti-establishment message, forcing fine art and high society to accept his chosen art form. Banksy is now enjoying the fruits of his labor “having pieces that have sold for over $200,000 at a Sotheby’s auction.” (Delana) “Journalist Max Foster has referred to the rising prices of graffiti as street art as "the Banksy effect.”” (The Biography Channel website) I also wish to be able to blaze a trail in gaming industry as Banksy has in the art world.…

His work, involving social or political structures, is intended to question established power relations, in the realm of art as well as society at large. In the production of subversive art Danticat seems to imply that both the writer and the reader enter into a tacit agreement whereby each is expected to courageously persevere in their defiance of authority for the sake of a broader social project. Instead of operating in separate realms as conventional wisdom demands, Danticat sheds light on the intersection between the artist and the revolutionary, alerting readers to the responsibilities artists must fulfill as agents of cultural change. In short, artists must practice “creating fearlessly … even when a great tempest is upon…
