“Conflict itself is not a destructive force, but conflict left unaddressed is. Unaddressed conflicts create mistrust, suspicion, dishonesty, defensiveness, conspiracy, and barriers.” (Roth p. 36) Conflict can be perceived as negative or positive. Observing conflict as negative can produce inappropriate behavior or destroy the morale or pursuit of the team’s mission, and the negativity can divert energy from important team activities and issues that require energy to resolve. When conflict is viewed as positive, it opens up discussion topics resulting in clarification. When teams are able to work through their conflict, it builds cohesiveness among team members and allows members to develop their conflict resolution skills. Among any team of more than one person, regardless of whether the conflict is viewed as positive or negative, conflict is inevitable. Understanding what causes conflict and how to resolve conflict is vital to the success of each individual in the team.…

According to our text, Management Leading and Collaborating in a Competitive World, by Thomas Bateman and Scott Snell, there are five approaches to handling conflict. The five approaches are avoidance, accommodation, competition, compromise, and collaboration. Handling conflict through avoidance is simply not addressing the problem or acknowledging there is a problem. Basically, nothing is being done to satisfy either party. Handling conflict through accommodation is when someone cooperates “on behalf of the other party but not being assertive about one‘s own interests.” Handling conflict with compromise “involves moderate attention to both parties’ concerns, being neither highly cooperative nor highly assertive.” Handling conflict from the approach of competing is when “people focus strictly on their own wishes and are unwilling to recognize the other person’s concerns.” The last approach to handling conflict is collaborations. “Collaboration emphasizes both cooperation and assertiveness to maximize both parties’ satisfaction.”…

When you mention the phrase "information technology infrastructure," most people immediately think of just hardware and software. However, there is more to it than just those two. In fact, the most important and often most-ignored component is that of services. Integrating all three components forces a business to think in terms of the value of the whole and not just the parts. Including all three components in any discussion of IT infrastructure truly fits the cliché that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.…
