Confirmation Bias
Confirmation Bias Amber Daniel 3/14/2012 PSY/285 Monica Mauri

Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for or interpret new information in a way that confirms one’s perceptions and avoids information and interpretations which contradict prior beliefs. It is also known as the root to evil. People tend to look for reasoning in their beliefs which takes them away from the truth. They see what their believe tells them to see and it may take them away from reality which then causes the bias.

Some beliefs follow certain rules. Most of them can be bias at times. Some people think mixed families are a sin because of their beliefs. Another example would be gay couples. Today, they are still fighting for the right to marry but you have all these people throwing religion and their beliefs in it that everyone looks at it as being bias.

I know a lot of Catholic people who are not bias against much. They say you love or like who you love or like. They hold nothing against anyone and support a lot of things that others do not because of their beliefs. I see Catholics as being non- bias. There are a lot of people who take their beliefs to the heart and follow every step of it. They are afraid they will be punished if they do not follow.

There are many examples for why people are biased and most are not afraid to say something about it. I stated before about mixed families and gay couples and marriages. There are a lot of biased people when it comes to these issues and their excuse is always their beliefs. They claimed we were not raised that way; it was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. We should stick to our own race and not be with another. It is all ridiculous and crazy. These two examples I used are

According to the Roman Catholic Faith Jesus Christ himself created the Catholic Church in 33A.D. The Prejudice against Christ and his followers started during his life from many of his miracles, teachings about his father “God” and the testament on how we as Christians should live our lives. The Prejudices stemmed from not only the Jewish faith and non-believers but from rules who feared that Jesus was a King above all kings and they would lose their empires. Christians would avoid discrimination by practicing in secret and coming up with a symbol to represent them self. The ½ fish. When 2 Christians would meet each would draw a half fish and together it would complete the symbol. An example of ultimate prejudice and discrimination is when Jesus was taken before ponchos pilot and the crowds choose Barabbas a thief and murder over Jesus. Ultimately Jesus was sentenced to crucifixion which nailed the end of Christ but the beginning of the catholic Faith forever. Between 33A.D and 1520A.D there were 13 Christian- religions that came about. One of them was the Roman Catholic Church. In 1545A.D The Roman Catholic Church Re- Evaluated some practices and beliefs because of several upsets in the church, wars, and Racial shifts due to global colonization of The Americas in 1492. This was called the Council of Trent. This movement would lead to thousands of new Christina religions, including fraction Catholic groups as well. These religions lay subservient if you will to the Alpha Roman Catholic church. An English Historian once acknowledged that “If any other human institution had known such great inner corruption or outer hostility, it would long ago have perished.” (Champlin, 1999). Thus is noted as an example that Divine intervention has withheld the Human elements we taint religion with. An example of this is in the early 1500s Jesuit Monks, and Catholic Bishops came to North and South…

For this fieldwork assignment I decided to go to a Roman Catholic Church. I was raised Catholic and I went to a Catholic school from second grade to eighth grade so, I had background knowledge on the teaching of the church. I have taken field notes and came across some reoccurring tendencies. All of these reoccurring tendencies support my thesis, which is: one of the many values the Catholic Church holds importance to is having much respect for their God. Throughout this essay I will explain my findings and the correlation between them and my assumption that this particular church holds being respect to a high regard.…

Many people misinterpret the meaning of being biased. People tend to use the phrase as a way to ruin a person’s credibility or create a way of seeming unreliable when speaking about a certain topic, however in many cases the word biased is used in an improper manner, which causes misinterpretation. A person who is biased is known to believe that their way of thinking and believing, is the only correct way and will not listen to anyone who says differently. However, many people believe that being biased is being strong minded in what they believe in, which is not technically biased, strong minded people listen to what others have to say, and consider it, but still believe they are correct. When a person is biased they criticize other people…

The other group of people in the visible world is the believers. They are blind followers. They believe what they are told without questioning it or giving what they are told a second thought. These people are like the hysteric mob they follow the ideas of others. But unlike the appearance followers the believers can distinguish between the illusion and the real thing. The believers could tell you that the rock itself is real and the picture of the rock is an illusion. They know that the rock itself contains more reality. And the believers…

Each person has a form of religion or principle to live by to provide their life with some kind of meaning or self-worth. There are a lot of people now days that believe their religion makes up a lot of who they are as a person. Christians believe that because they are Christian they should be gentle and kind hearted people. Buddhist beliefs are that they should lead a moral life and develop wisdom and knowledge through their religion. So we all have some sort of religion even if it does go against the norm. Also when people know that others are of a certain religion they seem to expect them to act a certain way but it’s not always the way they act. People who “own” their religion to the fullest tend to wear it like a sign, and they make sure everyone knows it. Bill Graham for example is known for the religion that he “owns.” People don’t know him for how big of a house he lives in, or how many cars he has. They know him for what he teaches and his following. He owns his religion and he has made it who he is. Since my junior year of high school I’ve been heavily involved…
