1. Understand the importance of equality and inclusion.

2.1. Explain what is meant by: Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Discrimination.

* Diversity - “The state or quality of being different or varied.” * Equality – “The state of being equal especially in status, rights and opportunities.” * Inclusion – “The action or state of being included within a group or structure.” * Discrimination – “The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things. Especially on the grounds of race, age, sex and sexuality.”

2.2. Describe ways in which discrimination may deliberately or inadvertently occur in the work setting.

Deliberate discrimination may occur when individuals are being treated differently due to their age, gender, race, religion, sexuality and/or disability.
Discrimination that may inadvertently occur when a policy that may apply to everyone equally restricts a certain society of individuals for example paperwork that is only in one language or does not have the option to be in braille and/or audio for the blind/ visually impaired or learning difficulties.

2.3. Explain how practices that support equality and inclusion reduce the likelihood of discrimination.

By treating all individuals with dignity, respect and equality this should reduce discrimination.

3.4. Identify which legislation and codes of practice relating to equality, diversity and discrimination apply to own role.

3.5. Show interaction with individuals that respect their beliefs, culture, values and preferences.
