Concert Review: The New York Youth Symphony
On Sunday, Novermber 20,2016 at 2:00 pm, The New York Youth Symphony performed at the carnegie hall Stern Auditorium. The program includes VIET CUONG Neon, BRAHMS Symphony No. 3, BRUCH Violin Concerto No. 1, and RAVEL La valse.
The first piece of music was VIET CUONG Neon. I couldn’t get in the carnegie hall on time due to subway lateness, so I couldn’t listen the VIET CUONG Neon. When I entered the auditorium, everyone was clapping already. I was kinda disappointed because I didn’t have the chance to listen to the first piece of music.
I was sitting on the DC2 section with my friends. I could see many different instruments on the stage, I saw string instruments, woodwinds instruments, brass instruments and one timpani on the stage. The second

    First on the program was Grand Quartet in E Minor by Friedrich Kuhlau (1786-1832). Kuhlau was a concert pianist and a composer of the Danish opera; he composed over 200 works in his lifetime. The first work the ensemble preformed was Andante Maestoso, the intro to the song was very soft, and it had a sense of a nature vibe to the melody. The pitch then proceeded to escaladed higher; at points during the work it was changing from all four flutes playing in unison to just one stand out flute and the rest in a base beat. I really enjoyed the change of pace throughout the song and how one flute stood out showed off that person’s unique set of skills that maybe differs them from the rest of the ensemble. The work ended in a very fast paced rhythm and there was no insinuation that the work was going to end because there was no build up to the finale of the work. I really enjoyed this piece but the only down fall was it was very long and none of the other songs in the ensemble were nearly that long.…
