Comparison Of Macbeth And Scotland, PA

In 1606, William Shakespeare wrote and presented a dark, psychologically charged story about the evil nature of a man at odds with his conscience in the play Macbeth. Four hundred years later the movie "Scotland, PA" takes the play someplace it has never been: 1970's white-trash America --- not always accurate, but clearly connected. Although worlds apart, this dysfunctional fast-food fantasy mirrors Shakespeare's story of royal deception and assassination by capturing elements of character and plot in a bizarre and twisted contemporary setting. When all is said and done, director Billy Morrissette's comically-dark parody completely alters the tone and voice of the tragedy without ever wavering from Shakespeare's original themes.

He begins the play having morals and questions his plan to kill the King. He then spirals into a machine that has no emotion or hesitation when it comes to killing someone. In Scotland, PA, Mac is a very good fry cook who works for Duncan. He has a very similar personality to the Macbeth in the play Macbeth. The play is just staged in a different setting. Connecting to the era background, the role of Macbeth gives the main clue of human desires and evil to the Shakespeare’s story. All Shakespeare wants to convey through the play is no other than the battle between faithful and desires.
