Comparing Romeo And Juliet And Titanic
¬ Shakespeare vs. James Cameron Love, sacrifice, and death. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet along with Titanic by James Cameron and we all wished these lovers got to live happily ever after, but instead it left one questioning, why did this have to happen? Most of the time teens think these love stories and movies are going to be lame, but sometimes we’re proven wrong, before you know it we’re living it and wishing we could change some tragic events. Romeo and Juliet and Titanic have similarities and differences in three areas; wide audience appeal, characters, and themes.

For example when Romeo wanted to marry Juliet, a girl he just met. Now that’s something beyond normal. In fact the play had taken 4 days, so one can see how impulsive Romeo and Juliet were. In this case Romeo and Juliet were wealthy. On the other hand Rose was wealthy and Jack was a lower class. Paris, just like Hockley, was a wealthy guy and they were both in the love with a girl they were not able to be with. Romeo was banished after killing Tybalt and this caused Romeo to be even further from Juliet. Similarly Jack was accused of being a thief, and that created a distance between Rose and Jack. The thing that is funny is that Romeo, Juliet, Rose, and Jack have same letters for their names and that’s not something you might find with two love stories that might be the same. These two stories have so much in common and themes could prove the similarities when comparing two …show more content…
Both the play and movie have common themes. One of the themes would be forbidden love. These lovers were not able to live happily ever after because of the many things crossing their path which then caused problems. These eventually prevented them from being together. For this reason their love was meant and not meant to be. This lead to sacrifice. Romeo would have sacrificed his life for his beloved and would do anything to keep her safe. Likewise Jack sacrifice himself in order for Rose to survive the shipwreck. Romeo and Jack were so deeply in love with their beloveds that their love did not last long. This love led to the tragic ending, death. Romeo killed himself thinking Juliet was dead when she was actually in a deep sleep caused by a potion. Once Juliet woke up she found Romeo dead and killed herself so she could spend her life with her beloved. Jack sacrificed his life for his beloved. When the Titanic sank Jack froze to death and he drowned while Rose survived when she was found by people in small boats looking for any survivors.     In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Benvolio is more civilized than Tybalt. To begin, Benvolio is respectful towards his kin. In a conversation with Montague, Benvolio wishes that “[his] noble uncle…so please [himself], step aside” (Shakespeare 1.1.140-153). Benvolio addresses his uncle with the utmost respect and politeness, depicting his civilized nature. Next, Benvolio tries to avoid violence. Upon seeing a fight, Benvolio intervenes to try and “put up [their] swords” (1.1.63). Benvolio’s trying to avoid a conflict demonstrates his civil actions. Unlike Benvolio, Tybalt is uncivilized. First, Tybalt does not respect the wishes of his uncle. Instead of doing as Capulet bids, Tybalt expresses to his “uncle, ’tis a shame” (1.5.82). Rather than politely doing as he is told, Tybalt snaps back rudely to his elder, illustrating his uncivil side. Whereas Benvolio asks his respected uncle to step aside politely, Tybalt disregards Capulet’s wishes and even retorts with a saucy comment, hence displaying his lack of civility in comparison to Benvolio. Moreover, Tybalt welcomes a fight. When given the chance to avoid using violence, Tybalt does not “excuse the injuries/that [Romeo] has done [him]; therefore [turns] and [draws]” (3.1.65-66). Instead of calmly forgiving and forgetting past offences, Tybalt intends to fight with Romeo. Tybalt is being uncivil towards Romeo, as he is trying to start a conflict with him when unnecessary. In contrast to Benvolio, who does his best to avoid fights, Tybalt strives for a conflict, hence proving him the less civil of the two.
