I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what…

Fashion buyers use their sense of style, knowledge of fashion trends, and understanding of their target customers' desires to create an attractive selection of apparel for retail stores. Due to the length of time it takes for a designer or manufacturer to fill all orders, buyers often make their purchases up to 1 or 2 years in advance, so it is important for fashion buyers to be able to understand past, present, and future fashion trends. Buyers must also be good at budgeting and planning inventory so that a good selection of clothing is always available for customers. Fashion buyers typically work for department stores, retail chains, independently owned stores or wholesale distributors. Their jobs might seem easy; after all, what's not to like about buying apparel with someone else's money, to the tune of thousands or even millions of dollars? Apparel buyers are responsible for selecting and purchasing apparel and accessories from manufacturers, designers, or wholesalers for retail sale. Buyers for larger department stores usually specialize in a specific line of clothes or accessories (e.g., men's suits or women's denim), depending on their specialties or interests. Buyer’s earnings are potential up to $100,000. The outlook is good to excellent. The overall number of fashion buyer positions available is expected to decrease, but new positions become available as a result of internal promotions of experienced buyers. Advancement opportunities are good: Those who start at the assistant buyer level have a good chance of becoming full-fledged buyers within 3 to 5 years. Qualifications in education are a college degree in Fashion Merchandising or a related field. Coursework in Fashion Design and Business is very helpful to enter the fashion buying career. Experience is important also, retail sales experience is very helpful because understanding customers' buying behavior is key to being a successful apparel buyer. Fashion buyers must be…

Maintaining a professional career while remaining a student required a flexible system of time management, prioritizing, and balancing responsibilities. My senior year of high school could be compared to a first year at college or an internship abroad, as I returned home with countless new opinions and morals. Since this experience I have continued my research into new developments in fashion and art. Attending Teen Vogue’s Fashion University this fall inspired a new interest in the beauty industry, and the amazing illusions makeup artists create through highlighting and contouring a face’s bone structure. I also gladly accepted an offer to intern for the Style Features department of Teen Vogue for the spring of 2012, and begin another journey in the industry I have fallen head over heels for. I am immeasurably grateful to have had opportunities to expand my perspective of art and life, while creating a clear and practical understanding of what I want to achieve in the fashion industry. My passion for aesthetics, fashion, literature, performance art, and now business, has inspired me to develop a unique insight on the modern possibilities of the fashion…

I am interested in the fashion branch, especially to work with textile and making forms on the human body. However, I am even more attracted to the more timeless branch to textiles. The fast production and the “no-time to waste because then this fashion is out”, what is made by the big fashion concerns is what i do not like in fashion. This does not correspond with the current trend of a sustainable world. I think the focus is fashion should be on protection, functionality, sustainability, quality and advanced capability of cloths.…
