Like many children, I’ve had my fair share of ideas on who I wanted to be, what I wanted to do, and how I imagined my life to transpire when I “grew up”. A few ideas that popped into my head include but were certainly not limited to: a vet, teacher, doctor, nurse, chef, lawyer, actress, ballerina (which quickly faded due to my lack of interest in actually learning ballet), and many, many more. As much as these topics had intrigued me at one point or another, fashion had always seemed to be the interest I went back to after all of my other aspirations faded.…

I am the perfect candidate for the Fashion Institute of technology because I am inquisitive; I am always craving more knowledge no matter what the topic - I am a leader, I enjoy coming up with fresh, new ideas and I am an intensely passionate person. Though, unlike many other FIT applicants, I haven’t always had a “passion for fashion”. Growing up, I wanted to be an Architectural engineer. It wasn’t until someone close to me gave me my first Michael Kors handbag my 8th grade year that I began to develop the passion I have now. Handling this bag was when realized my obsession with high-end fashion was only beginning. I was amazed at the production work put into making the merchandise. Of course the beauty of fashion is interesting, but what…

I worked hard in school to get the grades I needed to attend LIM college to enroll in their Visual Merchandising Bachelors Program with a concentration in Styling. I was then employed at Old Navy and Journeys where I worked as a sales associate to gain a better understanding of the many jobs in the fashion industry. To gain even more experience I created my high school's very first fashion club where we put on a now annual fashion show. I helped host the show and style the models while also handling behind the scenes aspects. I, later on, shadowed local designer, Ms. Evy Woods helping her prepare her fashion show at the Black Congressional Caucus. This event is where I really got to see what a real fashion show entails, which made me fall in love with fashion all over again! As of today I am currently applying for internships and volunteering for New York City fashion week to get even more experience. Eventually, I hope to attend LIM's guest speaking events to hear from people in the industry who have gone through the same process as me. I have done quite a few things to help me gain experience in the industry but I have so much more to…

Eventually my horizons expanded and my beloved Barbie dolls were no longer enough, I was forced to bury them deep in the closet. My interests broadened however; suddenly my past experiences came in very handy. I was the most sought after girl in my grade. No, not for my personality but for my flair for fashion. I could take anyone’s drab garb and turn it into something new and exciting. That worked well through middle school but soon my career as a consultant ended as all of my friends and classmates developed their own individual style.…
