In this brief essay I will be discussing two main ideas: Social location’s role to sociology and the concepts of sociology being relevant to my life.…

The mysterious outlaw, with the supposed identity of Etta Place, has stumped historians for more than a century, leaving behind unfinished timelines and questions. She was assumed to be born circa 1878, described in newspapers to be around 23-27, on average, thus the guess about her year of birth. Nothing is known about her younger years, (although supposedly she was a school teacher before she met the Sundance Kid.) and doesn’t appear in history till around the late 1890s. There is no census with her name in it, adding to the mystery of this criminal outlaw. There are a lot of blanks in her story, but some people have been able to piece the tiny pieces of evidence together, creating a fascinating story of a woman who dared to be different.…
Audition, or the sense that allows one to hear via the perception of the amplitude and frequency of sound waves, was the sense tested during the course of this experiment. The mechanical processes involved in hearing include air vibrations that enter the outer ear and are converted to fluid vibration in the inner ear, which are then transduced to electrical signals sent to the brain for interpretation. (Connelly, 2014) Any time an object vibrates it creates sound waves that move the air molecules around it causing pressure changes at various speeds presenting as sound waves. The two characteristics of sound waves, frequency and amplitude create the pitch and loudness quality of the sound. Frequency, or the number of waves occurring per unit of time, creates the high or low pitch of the sound and is measured in Hertz. Amplitude, or the height of the sound waves create the loudness or intensity of the given sound and are measured in Decibels. Humans can perceive frequencies ranging between 20 and 20,000 Hertz as audible sounds. (Connelly, 2014)…
The strongest sound-producing vibrations of bells occur near the rim (in Western bells, in the “sound bow”), in contrast to hollow gongs, where the vibrations are strongest in the centre. The acoustical structure of bell sound is complex and has been completely understood only in modern times. All bells contain an array of partials, or sound-wave frequencies of various pitches, but the tone of a musical bell consists of both harmonious partials and higher inharmonious…
Previous studies have found that pitch perception is the most difficult aspect of music to distinguish for individuals with cochlear implants (CIs). Pitch is the highness or lowness of a sound. It is described as the perceived frequency of complex tones that is heard by the human ear (Drennan and Rubinstein, 2008). Pitch is also known as the rate of vibrations of a sine wave that travel through the air per second, and it is expressed in Hertz (Hz).…

In a song, pitch is used to distinguish intervals, then notes, and then chords -all in which are in rhythm with each other. As stated, “The more you know about music theory, the better your comprehension of music, and the better you will play and compose (if that’s your cup of tea). It’s like learning to read and write: these skills can help you communicate better. Are they absolutely necessary? No. Are they tremendously helpful? Yes” (Pilhofer 227). Learning music theory is like learning another language, it takes practice and patience, and also contributes to overall inner enrichment and…

Equally, Phonetics discovers, identifies and describes the sounds that phonology study their patterns in particular languages. Phonetics descriptions are general and applicable wherever the sounds are found while phonological descriptions are usually language-specific.…
