Compare and Contrast High School versus College

A good education is an important part of ones life. To achieve a good education,

one should attend both high school and college. Although some people think high school

has a lot in common with college when actually they are very different.

After graduating high school everyone is encouraged to attend a college. Everyone has

their own opinion about doing so, but there are many difference between the two. There is

a great difference in the attitude in the students and teachers in high school, for instance,

most of the teachers in high school are much more strict about obeying the rules at all

times, and also about the amount of school work that is given. This causes many kinds

enrolled in high school to drop out because of poor grades, or getting into trouble.

The teachers also don’t treat you as though you are equal to themselves, but that you are

below them and they are shaping you on how to become more like them. High school is

very mapped out for the students, wake up at this time, be at school at this time, and eat

lunch at this time.

Many high schools now have it where the child is allowed to leave during their lunch

period as long as they return for their next class. This puts more responsibility on the

student to make sure they are responsible enough to handle themselves on their own or

when they get into college. One example in which a teacher has taken on a disciplinary

action was when a student was tardy or skipped their class after their lunch break.

The student was taken to the principles office and was given a full week of in school

suspension. However, the teachers only do this to teach you that you have to be able to

handle yourself once you get into college.

“Life belongs to the living, and he who lives must be prepared for changes.” Johann Von

Goethe wrote the previous quote. He was trying to emphasize that everything in life

brings about change. Attending high school and college is a decision that brings about

consistency as well as change. When you graduate from high school and are about to

attend college you must be ready to be able to adapt to changes. In college you have

greater responsibility. You are an adult, and they expect you to act like one. The teachers

expect you to except the consequences if you do not do the required work. In high school

the teacher would probably call your parents, and let them know that you aren’t doing

what you are supposed to do. In college you have to be responsible to succeed. It’s all up

to you.

One of the main difference between high school and college is the responsibility factor.

The differences all point out one thing. Students are expected to mature over four years.

They want the students by the time they reach college to know what they have to do to

make it. The high school teachers teach them responsibility by making them do their

homework and monitoring their attendance. Teachers are trying to teach responsibility to

high school students, and college students are expected to have it.

College is when you grow into the adult that you are suppose to be. Most students opt to not attend college because they cant afford it, they don’t know what they want to do with

their life, and they think college is too hard for them. But no matter what degree you have

earned, you are guaranteed to get paid more in any job that you get if you have a degree

period. The world is changing rapidly. More and more jobs require education beyond high

school. College graduates have more jobs to choose from than those who don't pursue

education beyond high school. A person who goes to college usually earns more than a

person who doesn't. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, on average, someone with a

bachelor's degree earns $50,900—that's 62 percent more than the $31,500 earned

annually by someone with only a high school diploma.

In conclusion to this essay, college and high school are both extremely different in their

own ways. But no matter what, it is important to get not only your high school diploma,

but also a degree in college, so you will always have something in your life to fall back

on.
