What is fair? What is fair when it comes to schools dress code? Parents have said when they were in high school they could wear off-the shoulder crop tops with their low-rise jeans and chucks and be just fine. Smithville High School has made strict rules on what to wear to be less “distracting to the learning environment.” But it’s a natural thing for people to be attracted to others, whether it's our personalities, our smile, in this case, our skin. Some private, and some public schools have school uniforms to become “equal” and to be “one.” But why is our school making the things we are wearing a big deal. AND it's even “bad” enough we have to be removed from our education because we are “such a distraction to the…

The rule that I would most want changed at our middle school would be the dress code. We should be able to have our shirts untucked, be able to wear whatever we want, and our school performance should not be based on what we wear.…

Have you ever been sent home from school because of what you were wearing? Maybe you should have been sent home, but you did not get caught? I am writing this paper because high school students across the country. and some parts of the world. get sent home and miss out on education simply because you could see their shoulders. (Buzzfeed) At Haven we have it pretty easy. In other areas it may be more difficult to find a cute outfit to wear. Some may even struggle to find something cute to put with or on their uniform that will not get them in any kind of trouble. School dress codes around the country. and some parts of the world, should be less severe. should not prevent individuality, and should not be difficult to follow.…

The Piedmont Middle School dress code has become a very controversial topic for both the students and faculty. The dress code states that shorts/skirts must be past the fingertips, and shirt sleeves must be at least three fingers in width. While I can see why this code is enforced, it is unfair for many students, and can interfere with student expression, different body types, and the student’s education.…

I see high school as deeper work, more responsibility, and more homework. The teachers are a lot harder on you. In high school, you get more freedom than in middle school because you’re older. There is harder work because the standards are higher. There is more responsibility because the teachers think you can do it and you have to keep up with more books and stuff.…

In Classical High School, a boy and girl are sat beside each other. Both learning. Both participating in class. Both wearing sleeveless shirts. The principal happens to walk in and asks the girl to step out of the class to speak. The girl ends up getting sent home for distracting the class. Dazed and confused, the girl asks why and the principal responds with “your shirt is distracting the boys”. Is this insulting to boys saying they get distracted by foolish things like a shoulder? Or an insult to girls making them seem like they are just sex objects that need to cover up for others sake. Many public high schools have extremely sexist dress codes. Not only is this not equal, but also keeps alive rape culture by saying girls are sluts for having shorts not reaching their fingertips. Sexist standards…

Dress codes are rules that the country has utilized for years. But are these rules necessary? They often suppress students’ individuality as well as students’ self-expression. At the same time these rules also discriminate and needlessly sexualize young women. Dress codes were put in place to establish a distraction-free environment for students. And yet, they are doing the opposite, and thus, modifying or eliminating them would be most logical.…

High school is a different experience for everyone. The first three years really blend together and do not seem important, but senior year is completely different. Freshman year was full of confusion, learning an array of new things. Sophomore year was where life started to get fun and you “belonged” in the high school. Junior year was where you see the little light at the end of the tunnel, but it was filled with anxiety and frustration. Senior year is where it all becomes worth it and the rest of your life is finally going to begin.…

When schools have dress codes they usually have dress codes for boys and girls. But the dress codes for girls are always much more strict. The dress codes for girls are usually no leggings or sweatpants, tank tops, shorts, undergarments showing, or skirts that are shorter than fingertip length. But for boys for boys the dress codes are something like no baggy pants or inappropriate shirts. And most of the time they don’t get into much trouble for wearing something against the dress code like girls do.…

The transition from middle school to high school is sometimes a very difficult experience for young teenagers. In their freshman year of high school, students’ grades may drop, their attendance might go down, or they might just have trouble focusing in school. High school may be a nightmare for some students or a very mind-blowing adventure for others. The manner in which students approach high school will determine whether or not they will be successful. Associating with good people, participating in extracurricular activities, managing your time, reading books and different articles, and most importantly studying and working hard, are all important qualities that a middle school student needs to make a smooth and successful transition from middle school to high school.…

Middle school was both exciting and frightening. It was exciting because I was able to switch classes and it made me feel older, however it was frightening because I had to impress more than one teacher and adjust to their teaching methods. The first day of middle school was different because that year my father could not see me off to school. My father died unexpectedly a few weeks before my first day of middle school which only added to the stress. Overall my first day was still pretty exciting because I knew I was going to meet new people. I was excited to see some of my old friends in the same class with me. I thought the work was going to harder since I was older, but it was not much different from elementary.…

Middle school is significantly different from high school; the middle school I went to is small compared to Ridgeview which has far more opportunities. Ridgeview has presented itself to be stronger, more demanding, and far more open. A few things that have been demonstrated to be far more taxing are band, different classes, and the method of accomplishment.…
