Compare and Contrast Elka and Anna
Elka vs. Anna

Elka and Anna are both complicated in their actions, yet they are different in their reasons and motivations. Throughout both stories, we can perceive how both characters commit adultery, lie and try to continue with their lives. Then again, we can appreciate how different they are when it comes to guilt reaction, the way they lie and how they do it, and even the way they love or how their emotions work. Famous writer Oscar Wilde states that those who are faithless know the pleasures of love; it is the faithful who know love's tragedies. Within the context of the quote, we find resemblance with the characters of each story, matching Elka with the ones who are faithless know the pleasures of love and Anna with the last part of the quote.

Since Elka appears for the first time in the story “Gimpel the fool”, her lack of interest is very noticeable, making this one of the main reasons for her actions. We can interpret it is one of the main reasons, since clearly Gimpel was not her motivation for her unfaithfulness. Gimpel, apart from believing everything he was told from her, he demonstrated his strong emotion loving her apart from anything. He was faithful, caring, a good husband and a great father, so we can infer her actions had a deeper starting point. Thanks to the story, we realize her adulteries have history since she is practically the town’s prostitute, and we become aware of why she has no problem cheating and most of all not feeling guilty until the end.

In difference from Elka, Anna showed at least some interest towards his husband. Her actions were inappropriate, but at first she was confused and her intentions were mostly naïve. For the most part her main reason was her loneliness, and the idea of being appreciated by someone. Another important point would be that she is trapped in a loveless marriage, which she respects, but by the end of the story, she wants to terminate. Compared to Elka, Anna, being a respectful person, have

Sometimes, even in the darkest times, love will find you. In the fantastic book by Rick Riordan, House of Hades, the two main characters, Percy and Annabeth, fall into the depths of Tartarus together. Throughout the book, we see them struggle through the murky abyss to the Doors of Death, while their friends make their way towards them in Greece. Both sides must be closed in order to stop Gaea. The story does end with Percy and Annabeth completing their journey safely. During the course of the book, I see two themes that shine through- love can overpower fear, and sometimes, you must face your fears in order to save your friends.…

In the story the protagonist, Dmitry Gurov, is a native of Moscow who has come to a resort in Yalta to get away from his life back home. It is obvious he is dissatisfied with his life as he describes it as boring and unhappy with his wife, who he illustrates as “a tall, erect woman with dark eyebrows, stately and dignified and, as she said of herself, intellectual.” (506) He also considers her of limited intelligence, narrow-minded, dowdy and admits to being afraid of her and does not enjoy being at home. Anna Sergeyevna is also vacationing alone in Yalta, only with her dog; she expects that her husband will be joining her soon at the resort but he becomes ill and is unable to come. When Dmitry first sees Anna she is walking her white Pomeranian along the boardwalk. Soon after first seeing Anna he finds a way to talk to her; by playing with her pet dog at a restaurant which they are both dining at. Within a week of meeting the two quickly go from being acquaintances to lovers, which shows the reader just how bored Dmitry and Anna both really are with their married lives back home. In the story, Chekhov portrays Anna as a depressed and unhappy woman who does not love her husband at all. She describes her husband as a flunkey and Anna knows little about him: she is…

For instance, because they are noticing the love, they put their own relationships under a microscope: “The first time was with a girl in my class at school and I suppose it was a bit of a trial run, really, I mean I’m not altogether sure how much I was feeling it but it seemed quite important when it was going on” (Lively 25). When reading this passage in your head, you can almost sense the doubt and unsureness. The scene in the movie depicts Anna Mae has being approximately 8 years old. This is the stage in life that Erikson refers to as “Latency”. Latency is the time in a child’s life when inferiority develops from negative experiences at home; therefore Anna Mae’s mother deserting her at such a young age gives her a sense of insecurity with herself. There are many scenes in the movie that show how she feels like she isn’t good enough, the first of which you see from the way she responds to Ike Turner. Ike is the first good looking man who ever shows her any attention and she doesn’t know how to react to him at first, however I think it is her insecurities about herself that cause her to sleep with him right after Lorraine shoots herself in the bathroom. She doesn’t want Ike to walk out like her mom did. Later in her life after she marries Ike we see her blaming herself and making excuses for him when he beats her because she still thinks he may leave. Anna Mae’s experience with her mother abandoning her also turns out to be the reason that she stays with Ike after every fight/beating, she doesn’t believe in abandoning the people you love, no matter what they may do. In the end of the movie when Anna Mae is officially Tina Turner she finally begins to stand up to Ike, she realizes that she is good enough to do this all on her own and she doesn’t need Ike or her mother to be a powerful woman. She is no longer scared and because of that she is a stronger…

Edward Taylor's "Huswifery" and Anne Bradstreet’s "To my dear and loving husband" poem both are expressing deep beliefs about their puritan background, however Edward' poem displays a more puritan message, while Anne simply expresses her love for her husband. These poet's use apostrophe and metaphors to describe what they were writing about, while Bradstreet uses different metaphors, Edward uses a much longer, descriptive metaphor called a conceit. The conceit compares his everyday choices and words to every stitch and spoole needed to sew together his holy robe that allows him into the elect. Bradstreet’s poem is a wife showing her affection to her husband through exquisite poetry. She explains in detail how strong their love is and how much she appreciates him loving her. For a women of her time she was highly educated than most woman. Woman were not allowed to express themselves in literature at this time, but she did not mind that. One of the things that show differences of these two poems is that Anne expresses her love as not enough for her husband. She says in poem “love from thee give recompense,” She asked God to reward her husband for loving her wall by making him part of the elect. Edwavrdd on the other hand shows his longing to be closer to God, he describes the many ways how he would like to be used by God and his desire for the lord to take over his life and to use his life to further his kingdom. Edward basically compares the aspects of the spinning wheel to his life, and how God can take each spiece dosf our life and change it for his good. Truly, love takes on many different forms. Love, for many centuries, has been given many different names. It also serves different functions. To distinguish a specific type of love, one of them is called eros. How love as eros can be defined is based upon the utilization of a specific writer’s perspective. Numerous published written works may account for the definition of eros. In this Essay, Plato’s perception of love as eros will be described. Furthermore, how and why Socrates, of “The Apology” by Plato, embodies Plato’s definition of eros will be shown. This embodiment will be based off Plato’s eros as poor being, eros as an intermediary between God and men, and eros as resemblance of the “god of Plenty”, eros’ father (Needleman 15 – 17).…
