Supercars have mainly advanced through engineering, styling, and performance. “Since the 1960s, many supercars have come and gone, but many have left their mark on the supercar world for their breakthroughs in engineering, styling and technology. Notable models have included the 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo, with its rear-mounted, turbocharged engine, still found in many supercars today. The 1987 Ferrari F40, one of the most extreme supercars ever made, was the last car commissioned by Enzo Ferrari himself, and relied on its aerodynamic shape instead of power for speed. Most recently, we 've seen the 2005 Bugatti Veyron, the first production car in the world with more than 1000 brake horsepower, and the current benchmark for power.” (ehow. Demand Media Inc.) Also in 1972 Lamborghini sold 51% of his company to a Swiss businessman, with the remaining 49% going to another Swiss in 1974. The latter year saw the Countach revealed in production form complete with 4-litre mid-mounted V12 and brutal, angular styling. Production continued until 1988 by which time the engine had been increased to 5-litres. The companies problems did not go away, however, and in 1978 they went into receivership. Three years later the Mimram brothers took control and began to revitalise the marque. First came the Jalpa, a restyled and heavily modified Urraco, then more potent Countachs and then, in 1982, the LM002. The latter was a Countach engined four wheel drive off-road jeep-like…

Ferruccio Lamborghini’s mechanical know-how led him to enter the business of tractor manufacturing in 1948, quickly becoming an important manufacturer of agricultural equipment in Italy. In 1959, he opened an oil heater factory which later produced air conditioners. Lamborghini’s companies were doing very well allowing him to purchase faster, more expensive cars, such as Alfa Romeos, Jaguars, Maserati’s and Ferraris. Of all of these he liked the Ferrari’s the best but he still had some annoyances. He said they were, “ too noisy and rough to be proper road cars” and called them “repurposed track cars with poorly built interiors” Although, the part he hated most was the continuous need for rebuilds and tune ups. This caused him to modify his very own Ferrari 250GT, which outperformed all of Ferrari’s stock models. This gave him the confidence to pursue automobile manufacturing. Lamborghinis main goal in creating a new brand of performance cars was “high performance without compromising tractability, ride quality, and interior appointments.” Lamborghini started to manufacture his own performance road cars in 1963.…
