The Right to Die: Should Terminally Ill Patients Be Allowed To Have This Option The right to die is a very controversial subject. Some people may have strong religious beliefs that have a great impact on their opinion. Whether or not a person can choose their own time of death in a terminal illness situation is the question. And should individuals who assist in these assisted deaths should be prosecuted. There are two types of Euthanasia: passive, and active. While I do not believe in assisted suicides, I do believe that a person has the right to die with dignity and free of pain if possible. This may entail pain medication, and anxiety medication being prescribed by physicians and administered by health professionals or family members. The use of Hospice services is also an option for some, but for a Hospice service to be offered there needs to be a great family support in place. Many people fear dying in hospitals and nursing homes, and would much rather be at home during this time. The fear of being in great pain for a substantial amount of time is a factor for terminally ill patients, and should be addressed with their family and medical professionals. I believe that the knowledge that one will have sufficient relief during their final stages of life may greatly ease their worries.
