General Introduction

Green vehicles and Trinidad and Tobago According to CIA World Factbook, Trinidad and Tobago has around 151 one cars per 100 person. With a population of approximately 1,262,566 people the total number of cars is about 1,902,172. Despite this large number of people and ever expanding car industry we have a negligible amount of green vehicles. This refers to any road vehicle that does not use petrol but uses alternative fuel sources for energy. This information led me to the theme of this portfolio, “Green vehicles in Trinidad and Tobago.” For the exposition, I presented an eight minute speech to my teacher that provided information on the benefits of green cars, the future of green cars and, their history, accompanied by two articles I have found on the topic. For the reflective I have written a short story, “Gregory’s green car” coupled with a preface giving the story’s purpose, intended audience and context. In this story I have analysed registers and dialectical variations. I have always been fond of cars since my father started carrying me to drag racing when I was younger also being a physics student, the mechanics of vehicles has always intrigued me but now that I can understand the conventional combustion engine I aspire to improve it. I hope to become an engine designer or mechanical engineer so I can promote and continue to improve green vehicles in Trinidad and Tobago so that the harmful effects of conventional cars to the environment can be reduced.

Prior to this course I was unaware of just how much fossil fuel the world uses and how if we don’t improve on our consumption we will run out in the not so distant future. As fossil fuel diminishes one step that many of us might consider is reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use in our transportation needs. In this class I researched and compared and contrasted all the major electric, hybrid and standard vehicles in an effort to show readers what type of vehicle may meet there wants and or needs. Through my research I discovered the importance of car companies to continue to make advances on these electric automobiles. While writing this paper I was able to provide justification and a strong rationale in the selection of a vehicle. Lastly, there are many other solutions for example as developing different and cleaner fuels or increasing public transportation. This course has opened my eyes to many energy solutions for the future of our…

Consider fuel economy and CO2 emission rates. Widely acknowledged public utility vehicles such as the Toyota Coaster, Mitsubishi Coaster, and Hyundai County evidently have more efficient fuel consumption and CO2 output than our beloved jeepneys. Respectively, the average fuel consumption are 18.44 km/l, 14.79 km/l, 18.31km/l (Mills, 2013) compared to our king of the road’s average of 5.53km/l - 6 km/l (Napalang & Vergel, 2010, p.4), while the carbon output on the average is 174.8 g/km, 210 g/km, 171.9 g/km (Mills) with our jeepneys belching it big-time at 601 CO2 g/km emission rates (Napalang & Vergel, p.2).…

As much as cynicism surrounding the use of ecofriendly vehicles is that they will be slow and thus be a set back to the gains made in motor sports over the years the bottom line is it’s an important step towards having our children and other generations live in a better future than destroy their live hood today. Since the stakes are high as far as environmental degradation and global warming are concerned motor sport companies should devote their energies to come up with motor sport vehicles that observe safety and environmental technologies.…

Indian Press ( Emergency Powers) Act 1931 is another piece of draconian legislation aimed at curbing the journalistic right and containing the expressions of thoughts by the journalists who were mostly the leaders of the nationalist movement. If even after the forfeiture of the security and the deposit of new security, the newspaper published objectionable matter, the provisions were made equally applicable to the publisher of newspapers also.
