April 20, 1999- Columbine high school shooting, July 20, 2012- Colorado movie theater massacre, December 14, 2012- sandy hook massacre, these are all examples of real life massacres that have been the cause of many innocent lives throughout the years. These are also examples of reasons on why the prohibition of rated M videogames has been such a controversial topic. My aunt went to grocery shopping last week and someone slashed her tires. Does that mean that she should no longer go grocery shopping? It’s really absurd isn’t it? Well believe it or not it’s the same thing that is happening with rated M videogames. There is a lack of studies that follow kids that tend to play these types of video games for a long period of time. This shows us that these accusations are invalid because no one has proven that “violent video games” cause violent actions. Also, violent thoughts have often been confused with violent actions. For example, someone might say “I hate Becky I want to kill her!” This is just the way teens talk. Just because someone says this doesn’t exactly mean they will do it. Were just teens, we say things we don’t mean causing others to think we have turned into some sort of monsters. I know I said that there is no bond between rated M videogames and violent actions but there is just a tiny one. The only bond that has been proven about these two is that kids that are already violent for many other reasons like bullying, child abuse etc. are the ones who tend to look for these games. The people that want to ban these videogames are making it seem like these video games are some sort of black hole that is just waiting to suck up any kid and turn them into some sort of violent machine.
