I believe the single most important societal problem we face today is that our generation thinks they should just be handed everything without having to work for it. This is a big problem because kids now that get everything they want. The kids that are like this are bound to fail when they get out in the real world. Our generation is going to grow up and not know what to do when a boss or supervisor tells them no because that’s what they’ve been use to all their lives. But I’m glad to say I’am not one of these people. I started working when I was fifteen umpiring at Chesterfield baseball fields. Now I’m on the varsity baseball team getting ready for the next season. Most kids now when something gets hard they just want to quit and find something easier. But I enjoy the challenges put before me because it’s a chance to improve and better myself. That’s why I’m applying for this scholarship, I’d like to take on college as my next short term goal. Expanding my education so I can better myself is a challenge I’d love to pursue. By doing this I can graduate and start a career of my own. Some long term goals of mine would be to succeed in my career and more up in whatever it may be. I’d like to become a firefighter, I’ve always been interested in it and I’d like to pursue it as a career. I like to help people and firefighting would be a great way to do so. And the challenges that come along with being a firefighter would make me a better and stronger person in every way. There are certain hurdles I’ll have to jump over to reach my goal, one of them being college. College has gotten to be so incredibly expensive that without scholarship money I’m going to end up pay off student debt for the next 25 years.
