Prompt: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

As a child, I was a shy, nervous boy who never knew how to express himself. In elementary school I had no friends because I was shy and one of those kids who just got on everyone’s nerves when I wouldn’t act shy. But that soon changed once I got to middle school. I personally did not want to go to the school my mother had chosen for me. She wanted me to go to a Music/Academic excellence school, but I only really enjoyed academics at the time. My school of choice did not accept me because of a careless mistake I made on a standardized test. When middle school came around I was in a whole new environment. I was now taking music classes such as choir and music theory, as well as my saxophone lessons I would have once a week. This would be the start of my life changing for the better. I soon became equipped to perform music and would do so in every music concert we had at my school. At first it was a struggle especially since I was in classes with kids who’ve dealt with music before middle school, but it got easier as the years went on. During my middle school years I always wanted to be able to have some talent with singing. I would always project in choir but my music teachers would tell me to not be so loud because it wasn’t sounding well. I soon would prove them wrong when in ninth grade I decided to stay at that school for high school. I would try out for concert choir and get in. That’s when I realized my love for music and being on stage. I would also take honors and Advanced placement music theory classes for ninth, tenth and eleventh grade. Thanks to music now I’m stronger in my academics and focuses, as well as my confidence. Without music I would probably still be a closeted homosexual and would

I had joined my church youth choir and loved every moment of it. Then, once middle school came I decided I wanted to continue my music education by joining the band playing the trombone. The next year I decided to try out for the middle school field hockey team and made it. I continued with band and field hockey until my freshman year of high school when I had the intentions of quitting field hockey in order to pursue marching band because no one had ever done both before. I soon came to my senses and decided that not only was I going to continue with both band and field hockey, but I was also going to be the first person to successfully do that. On top of this, I decided I would audition for the school musical and jazz ensemble which would also overlap with the end of the marching band and field hockey seasons. Through much communication with my coaches and band directors, and musical directors I was able to accomplish this for all four years of my high school career and I wouldn't have had it any other…

My schoolmates may not know me by name, but they can tell something about the guy who is damn good at singing musicals. After he finished singing on the stage, the principal jumped to his feet clapping hands. Parents watching online hurriedly posted messages of praise, eager to find out whose kid the singer was. I, proud but not vain, had been accustomed to such reactions. For me, loving and practicing musicals has been a long, inspiring journey; it means much: a talent, a hobby, a way to relax, and even a label!…

As a little girl I wanted to be just like Hannah Montana. As I got older, I wanted to be like Rachel Berry, a small town girl living out a big town dream. I wanted to be looked up to because of my musical talent. Walking into Mrs. Kaiser's 7th hour, 8th grade band, I didn't know that music would have such an impact in my life. Music has become the spark of my intellectual curiosity. There are millions of combinations of key signatures, chords, melodies and rhythm in the world of music just waiting to become attached to a sheet of staff lines and spaces. Ever since my first experience with music in the fourth grade, my mind began to explore all these combinations of problems. Music helped me with math, english and gave me a place to escape when I was put into undesirable situations. In Middle…

I loved to sing as well and learned how to control my voice. Eighth grade came and I joined the show choir, I danced as well as sang but I soon learned that I wasn't the best dancer so I decided in ninth grade to stick to singing. In ninth grade I also joined the marching band playing the 4th bass drum (which is the largest one). I loved marching and playing, going to competitions and learning new pieces, going to football games, all of it was wonderful. I came to love the ringing in my ears from the loud sound of our band. While I was in marching band I was also in the percussion band (which was an…

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been very passionate about music. I started singing in the Church choir when I was in kindergarten and took guitar and piano lessons. However, I didn’t realise how important music was to me until last year. I auditioned for the middle school Show Choir in seventh grade, but I didn’t get in. I decided I wasn’t going to pursue choir as an elective in school anymore, but by some stroke of luck I was put into a regular choir class the next year. Most likely this was because there was no other class for me to be in, but I’m grateful my schedule worked out this way. I was able to rediscover my love for singing and learn about basic music theory, which has led me to my desire to audition for the high school Show Choir.…

Music has played a significant role throughout my whole life. All throughout middle school and high school I have been a performer, participating in many different musical organizations including orchestra and choir. These personal experiences have broadened my interests in music. In middle school I was in choice voices, which was a special singing group for people who excelled in singing. When I went to high school I stayed in the same program and even became senior section leader of my choir, conducting different songs at our concert and being in charge of different performances. During my childhood I was part of the choir at my church, and performed during the different holiday masses.…

My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness.…

During the age of ten, in my fourth grade class, the whole fourth grade which consisted of around seventy kids, had to do a musical. The musical consisted of seventy kids playing a plastic flute. We spent about two months practicing and had to learn how to play it properly, I struggled with it a lot. I wasn't too much into it nor did I like music very much after having to play a flute which was one the worst experiences of my life. When 5th grade came, the whole 5th grade classes was required to be part of a chorus. It was required that every student had to do it, to graduate. I actually liked chorus a lot better than playing the flute. I enjoyed it cause even if my voice and singing was not too good, it didn't matter because we sung as a group.…

A particular ambition I fostered in high school was to start my own band. There were many obstacles that came in the way of this achievement, however me and my incredible friends were able to overcome these hardships. One of these hindrances was to get out and play together with making unique and interesting music that people could appreciate. We conquered this affair by booking shows and a great deal of local venues in our area. We eventually got accepted by a small locale in the Cincinnati area.…

I decided my self to take a private lesson to improve my guitar skill when I was 8 years old. As I grew older, I spent most of my time in any activity or situation that relate to music.
